Description

Circa 1847. Friendship, food and hospitality are found in abundance at these historic accommodations sitting on 43 acres of hill country. Both main buildings are from the 1800s. The hand-hewn timber-rock house was built by a German pioneer. The Danville Schoolhouse was moved here in 1990 and restored while retaining original floors, walls, roof and design. Table games are enjoyed in the common room. Some guest bedrooms feature whirlpools and are wheelchair accessible. Deer Haven is a spacious five-room cottage boasting a full kitchen, whirlpool tub, deck and large patio area. A hearty country breakfast may include homemade breads and baked goods, egg entrees, hash brown potatoes, grits and pancakes. Breakfast is served family style, so no one leaves the table hungry as heaping second helpings often keep guests full until dinner. Horseshoes, croquet, walking trails and fishing are popular outside activities.

Historic Interest

The original German rock home is a 1847 pioneer homestead, and it has thick walls and the original cedar timber and rough cut wood. The original 1863 one-room schoolhouse has hardwood floors, a chalkboard, and covered porches on each side. Additions were made with recycled rocks from a local church and county jailhouse. The front step from the jailhouse is in front of the fireplace 10" thick by 8 ft. long.

Great breakfast and secluded location.

The owner is a great host and has a wonderful staff cooking breakfast. The location is just a few minutes from Gruene and New Braunfels. Deer are often seen near the house and they keep snacks and the fridge stocked for the guests. We have stayed several times and avoid the party crowd and the local hotels.

What a great place to stay....especially if you don't think you like b&b's.”

We stayed 3 nights in the Deer Haven Cottage....the perfect solution when traveling with kids and their friends. There was enough privacy for everyone's comfort. Margie and her son, Darrell, are terrific hosts and so were the baby doe and buck who joined us for breakfast each day. How awesome is that! Breakfast is worth getting up for and don't miss the toffee for an afternoon snack! There's enough history in this house and Margie's memory that you hardly need to go looking for entertainment in town. Save some time to stop and soak it up.

Superb Bed and Breakfast

I like to stay in B&B's because most in my experience provide unique ambience and a breakfast ranging from excellent to exquisite, with the best ones changing the menu daily. The Kuebler Waldrip Haus scores in every respect. It is beautifully situated, has unique historical characteristics, drips ambience, and has delightful, laid back hosts. And the breakfast? Wow. I have stayed in several B&B's both here and abroad that serve pretty great breakfast fare, and the Kuebler Waldrip Haus is up there with the best of them. By the way, the rooms are quite nice as well, covering the gamut of people's tastes. This is a B&B with no warts. Situated on a small farm property (60 acres if I recollect correctly), it is quiet, with bucolic views in every direction, yet it is only a few minutes away from town or the Guadalupe river. There are many other B&B's in the area (especially Fredericksburg) which could take a lesson from the Kuebler Waldrip folks in B&B setup and management. This one is on my "I hope I get to visit again" list.

Girls Week-end

Stayed with 2 friends in the Hillside Hideaway room for 3 nights during the Gruene Wine and Music festival. Margy and Darrel are very welcoming! The breakfast each morning was delicious! Clean, and well maintained. We enjoyed ice cream and cookies, each night. Very relaxing sitting on the front porch.

Great place to stay

Kuebler-Waldrip is lovely, quiet, clean and comfortable. The breakfasts are very good. Everything is as you should expect. Moreover, K-W is convenient to numerous tubing spots on the Guadalupe river, and to New Braunfels, Gruene, San Marcos, and San Antonio.
