Description

Circa 1700. Picture a European-style country house hotel cascading down eight different levels, with 2,000 panes of glass flooding the interior with light. This beautiful gem in historic Charles Town, West Virginia was constructed in the 1920s on George Washingtonís first land purchase made in 1750. Today, the inn provides a standard of excellence marked by well-appointed accommodations, romantic fine dining, rejuvenating spa services, and special events. Our 18 guest suites and 30 sprawling acres are situated on three serene properties located just one hour from the hustle and bustle of Washington D.C. A short drive from the inn, guests can find popular attractions such as Harpers Ferry, Hollywood Casino, and the Northern Virginia wine trail. Or guests can enjoy all that Hillbrook has to offer, from a relaxing rest in a backyard hammock to sipping a cup of coffee in front of a warm fire. No matter the season or time of year, we invite you to visit Hillbrook Inn & Spa for an unmatched hospitality experience.

Historic Interest

Hillbrook Inn was built as a private home by Brigadier General Frank E. Bamford, at the height of the roaring 20s on land George Washington once owned and farmed. General Bamford modeled Hillbrook after an inn he loved in Normandy, where he stayed after the First World War. So it is especially fitting that Hillbrook should now be a country inn in the European tradition.

All INNcompassing Stay!

Stayed here for a romantic getaway and cannot say enough about the wonderful experience...from dining to service and overnight suite memories....the main house is beautiful and the grounds spectacular. The staff were most attentive from welcome to departure and INN-between....can't say enough about innkeepers and staff. The room we chose (Bamford) was amazing, with fireplace, separate private entrance to the most comfortable bed ever! Loved our dining experience and great choice of wine pairing. To have all these amenities in your guest room - Keurig coffee/tea maker; choice of wines and even an iPad with many complimentary app features was second to none as far as inn choices go. We can't wait to return and to tell of of our friends about this romantic getaway less than an hour from DC...wow!

InnSide Tip - Comfortable Tavern
Be sure to ask the innkeeper for a special cocktail from the bar in the Tavern and enjoy by the fireside before or after dinner....nice.
