We were blown away by the service and dining at The Hide Away. We stayed in the Out of Africa Loft and it was twice as beautiful as the pictures I saw online. It was a surprise for my boyfriend and he lost it when we walked in the room. The downstairs was lit up with bunches of candles and the Jacuzzi was ready for us, I had asked them to set it up before we arrived. Once we unpacked and relaxed for a while we went over to the dining room for dinner and was shocked to find they had a Gourmet Chef. The meal was unbelievable and very well priced for every thing we got. The next morning after a fantastic breakfast we had massages in the spa that completed the perfect couple days!!!!!! Thank you so much for a great holiday its the best we have ever had. We will be back

Margaret SaddorisBooked a weekend stay for Friday and Saturday night in their best room at $300 a night with a Saturday Candlelight Dinner by their world famous Chef. What we got: Basement room with no sunlight, windows that did not open, smelled like sewage, had dehumidifier going in corner, damp and wet with BROKEN bed, and let us not forget the MOLD. Famous Chef was on vacation, and construction going on ALL night long. We got very sick from our stay in the moldy basement and were very sore from the broken bed (we were fighting from rolling off of it all night). We decided to try dinner there Friday night before we spent $200 on the candlelight dinner the next day. We wanted to make sure the meal was still good even though the Chef was gone. Dinner was not that great (maybe because famous chef was gone) and seriously over priced. We would have received better service, and food if went to a steak house. The next morning we were so sick and our sinuses were so bad from the moldy, damp and smelly basement that all we wanted to do was leave. I actually saw black mold growing in the basement when we woke up Sat morning. When we informed the owner she told us we still had to pay for the candlelight dinner and the room for Saturday. My husband politely explained to her that we were not going to pay for anything we were not going to use especially when we feel we already paid too much for a room that made us sick. Not to mention we did not want a $200 dinner when her wait staff was cooking it and not the famous chef that we were promised. The owner became VERY angry and began yelling at us and told us we had to pay for everything at full price. My husband then very nicely told her that if she did not come up with a better solution then we were going to leave a nasty review. She again began yelling and accused us of threatening her. She eventually relented and agreed not to charge us for services not rendered. Not five minutes after we left we got a phone call from her accusing us of stealing bath robes! She again was yelling at my husband on the phone and he surprisingly was still able to remain polite with her. He offered to drive back so she could check our car and bags, she then stated that we probably ditched the robes on the side of the road and hung up on us. She then called back minutes later just to put her maid on the phone to stress that we must have stolen the robes. My husband told her she was embarrassing herself and asked her what she wanted from us in order to solve the situation and she again hung up the phone on him. Later the next day we received a phone call from the Sheriff’s department informing us that she filed a police report against us. The officer then told us that the owner has filed at least 4 other similar reports on customers. The officer thought it was a joke and was even laughing with my husband on the phone. However, this apparently can still be brought to civil court. I guess we will have to wait and see just how CRAZY the owner really is and if she will seriously take it that far. Do not stay here, poor service, WAY overpriced, might make you sick, and you may have a police report filed against you. Total joke! She should pay us for ruining our vacation and making us very ill. Anyone who thinks that a wet, smelly basement room is worth $300 is completely out of touch with reality. Update: We have found out that she charged us for a $90 massage that we never received! Owner is totally insane and a crook!

Kirt MoritzWe received a gift certificate from a family member for a 2 night stay in a specific suite at Hideaway Country Inn plus money toward dinner. After calling to schedule a reservation with Debbie Miller the owner, she refused to honor our gift certificate for a weekend date unless we paid a $180.00 up charge. She was rude and hung up the phone on us when we clearly pointed out that there were no weekend exclusions printed on the gift certificate! She then offered a $220.00 less expensive suite for a weekend, which we declined. This company uses bait-and-switch tactics, beware. After numerous attempts to get a refund for the gift certificate from Debbie, we filed a Small Claims lawsuit in Crawford County Ohio. One week prior to our court date, Debbie refunded the cost of the gift certificate, but has yet to reimburse our $65.00 court costs. Please check public records, the better business bureau’s C+ rating and other reviews prior to making your reservation. Buyer beware.

Dawn PottingBasically...it's... a really neat old place but WAY overpriced, has great food IF you go on a day when the chef is there, has great hot tubs IF you can stand the stinky water, has "fine soap, lotions and specialty bubble bath" BUT you'll still stink like the water and get dry skin, has a wonderful variety of rooms IF you don't mind walking outside and up to the house for breakfast each a.m., has "fresh baked cookies" BUT you'll never get them, has a very polite staff BUT they might walk into your LOCKED room without knocking or announcing themselves in any way. I'd pay $100/night, as long as the incredible chef guy is there. It 'd be nice for a weekend get-away. Has potential to be nice. Here's the FULL DETAILED REVIEW... ...WELL WATER ALERT! The "house" is awesome! DEFinitely overpriced, but very quaint, old world, Victorian, and country cottage all in one. A really neat getaway spot! Wish I wasn't there for my honeymoon, though. Unless you're the only ones in the house, everyone there will know what you're doing- if you know what I mean. You can hear everything- tv's, conversations, staff, and especially any movements. Squeakiest floors in the history of squeaky floors! Normally not a problem, but these are LOUD squeaks and creaks. I mean louuud. When someone goes potty in the middle of the night, you'll know it. Also, being our honeymoon, we kinda wanted to sleep in, but noooo. It sounds like a heard of elephants above your head all morning (in the Cherry Suite). And it starts early. Also, their webpage says "Fresh Baked Cookies" under amenities. We never got any and we were there 2 nights. Breakfast was AWESOME! Everything in it's own special little bowl, food I never heard of, fruit cut in fancy ways...etc. That part was lovely and made us feel special. We thoroughly enjoyed that. Then, on day two, the awesome, funny, world-class chef guy wasn't there and some woman (maybe manager, maybe owner- not sure) cooked our breakfast. It was terrible. We had rubber eggs and really dry muffins. Bleh! Isn't it a major oversight at a B&B to NOT have a chef on staff some days? One of things you should be specializing in at a B&B is the breakfast. The other is the bed. Ours was lumpy, saggy and old. The "suite" itself was really neat. Very large and roomy.Plus, at a B&B, the Breakfast is one of things you should be specializing in. The other is the bed. Ours was lumpy, saggy and old. The "suite" itself was really neat. Very large and roomy. Plus, it was in the basement, so we felt like we were in our own little world. However, if you don't like dust, cobwebs, cement floors, and the thick smell of wood smoke, don't stay here. This room is a little "basement-y." Worst thing was the water. Hellooo rotten egg smell! Yikes! They don't tell you on their web-site that it's well water. I'm from the area and everyone I know has well water, but this stuff STINKS! Even the bubblebath soaps don't cover the smell. After 2 nights here, we moved to the King Louis Suite for 2 more nights, hoping for better water quality because it's not in the basement. Water still was gross, but the room was awesome! It was very fairy-tale-ish. That was fun for me. But, the 2 chairs shown in picture #3 for this room (by the little round table at the foot of the bed), were not there. Good thing it was our honeymoon, because we had to stay in the bed for 3 days with nowhere to sit. At least this bed was MUCH nicer. Firm and level and not sqeaky at all. We slept so good in this room. However, this room is in an out-building (think fancy barn), NOT attached to the main house, so you have to walk OUTSIDE and up the driveway (no sidewalk) to get to the house for your breakfast in the morning. NOT fun in the middle of winter. We almost blew away both mornings, AND had to eat breakfast with cold, wet feet because we didn't know we'd need snow boots to get to breakfast. Shouldn't that be in the room description somewhere? "Will have to go for a short hike to get breakfast, please dress accordingly." Have I mentioned it was our honeymoon? Well, I also told everyone on the property every time I saw ANYone. You would think they would know NOT to enter our room unannounced. Also, isn't it customary to KNOCK before entering a room, pretty much everywhere in the world, but ESPECIALLY in a hotel-type place?! Shockingly, and much to our dismay, (among other feelings- embarrassment & anger for example) A STAFF GIRL WALKED RIGHT INTO OUR ROOM!! Locking your door means nothing here. They have the same electronic key as you. Luckily we weren't...umm..."doing anything" at that exact moment. BUT I was naked and NOT covered in any way!!! It was definitely less than great running into her in the halls the next couple of days! If I wasn't so embarrassed, I'd have marched right up to the desk and demanded our last night free. Also, our "Fresh Baked Cookies" in this room were nowhere to be found, as well.

Tony Kocak (2 reviews)REVIEW OF HIDE AWAY COUNTRY INN BUYER BEWARE !!!! My wife and I made reservations to eat Thanksgiving dinner at 2:00 pm in a private dining room at the Hide Away Country Inn sometime early November. Our experience was mixed as the dinning experience was excellent as oppose to our customer service experience with Debbie Miller A.K.A … “The Owner” as she likes to flaunt. We were not greeted upon arrival nor given any instructions in contrast we waited approximately an hour and fifteen minutes before we finally got seated. We found Debbie Miller very abrasive and rude in her demeanor after we introduced ourselves and stated that we had 2:00 pm reservations. Then, about 3 days later we received a phone call from the HideAway Inn from a gal named Krys Fearing (an attendant at the Inn) asking how our dinner was and if we were still interested in making Christmas Eve and Christmas Day stay over reservations. Of which I told her that I was disappointed with Debbie Millers customer relations and the amount of time it took to get seated given the fact that we had reservations. Then Krys abruptly said hang on let me let you talk to the Chef. Then, the Chef gets on the phone and I re-explained what happened afterward he apologized and asked us to give the HideAway a second chance and as a result would not only oversee our stay but comp us both Christmas Eve and Christmas Days dinner (excluding food, i.e. just the room itself) in a private dinning room with a fire place. My wife and I said we would call him back in about 20 minutes after discussing the matter. Hence we called back and reluctantly decided to give the Chef a second chance to redeem our experience at the HideAway. Later we arrived Christmas Eve around 4:00 pm and our entire experience was fabulous until our second and final dinner on Christmas Day when about two hours before dinner we received a phone call from the Chef whereas he stated in a very cold statement something to the effect as … Tony I can’t allow you to dine tonight in the private dinning room due to the fact that it was already booked about a month ago and I didn’t know about it until tonight hence, I was so taken back by his statement that I said that I would need to speak with my wife about how we would proceed and call him shortly. About ten minutes later I called back and told him to just cancel our dinner reservations if he would not honor the agreement we had originally made of which he said ok. We found both the Chef and the staff at this point very unprofessional as we called later and stated the room was increasingly cold even though we had the heat set high. We were then told that the fireplace would need to be operational in order to offset what the electric heater wouldn’t do. We then stated that there was a stiff wind coming through the fireplace and it would fill the cherry suite with smoke. They insisted we light a fire of which we did and as I stated earlier it did fill with smoke and we did not receive the attention to resolve it at all, instead my wife and I had to resolve it our selves. The next day, there was something diabolical, even going as far as to say… sinister about the staff as to how they closed me out before leaving. The chef met me and my wife as we were loading our final belongings into our van and tried to follow us whereas I told him I would be with him momentarily. He asked if we were going to have breakfast and I said “no”, then there was tension. When I came to the office to check out Debbie was in the wings and when one of the clerks couldn’t complete a task she stepped in. Now, the chef was in the room trying to make small talk of which I was in no mood while Debbie was checking me out. There was overt tension of which I tried to avoid any conversation until I could cool off and collect my thoughts and feelings about the matter because I was so frustrated and baffled over my stay that I couldn’t think clearly. The check was correct and as I was leaving I was graced with what I felt like smug comments especially from Debbie A.K.A … “the owner” as she said … “you have a good day man”, [remember that Debbie]… (very unprofessional). On the way home my wife and I both stated almost at the same time … “I knew we shouldn’t have given them a second chance”

Anna ArcuriThe Blossom room was very nice, however the jacuzzi was surrounded by cobwebs. The windows didnt open from the inside, and the website does NOT reflect ANY of their current menu options. The breakfast (which was included in the price of the room) was a surprise. They do not even tell you what your being served, nor do you have a choice in what you have for breakfast. The room didnt even have plastic cups or an ice bucket if you wanted to have a cold beverage in the middle of the night. The massage therapist was very nice and did a good job, however it was very overpriced for a half hour massage. When we arrived we actually had to CALL the B&B to get service and greeted to check in. The breakfast that was served to us was a bacon and cheese toasted tortilla topped with salsa, jalapenos and hot sauce,,, dont forget the sunny side up egg placed on top of the tortilla. The waiter couldnt even accomodate a simple request for toast (I was told they dont have bread), but he did suggest I use another muffin to eat with my egg. The table next to us was served Belgian Waffles topped with fresh strawberries. When we asked about what "determined" which breakfast we ended up with, he explained that the other couple had spent two nights with them, therefore they got that. Even after the waiter saw how displeased we were with our breakfasts, he did not offer a simple resolution. I visited Hideaway back in 2002, and I must say,, it has DEFINETLY gone downhill. I would recommend going for a relaxing getaway, if your looking to drop 500.00 and have horrible food.

Steve WWe held a Corporate Christmas party here, and the event was amazing. Everyone had a great time, and was blown away by Chef Michael's 8 course diner. We have never had that great of feedback from our employees and their spouses from any event ever. The top quote during the event is, "Where did you find this place?"! One of the wives of our employees came up to me a couple weeks later and said "out of the thirty plus years we have been with the company, that was the most unique and nicest thing they have done for us!" The staff was wonderful and accomodating and even spent quite a few hours helping us prepare to get everything exactly perfect. Chef Michael's food was not only out of this world, but the whole diner experience was wonderful. Everyone was relaxed and laughing all night. Chef Michael was very entertaining throughout the whole diner too. The unique rooms were another big topic of discussion too. We highly recommend this place!

Tony Kocak (2 reviews)BUYER BEWARE !!!! [opening statement]: This is my wife Jody and my selves’ solemn promise to give an accurate review for the sole intention of helping the next person(s) considering dining or staying at the Hide Away Country Inn. With that said, I have no ill will toward the owner or staff. [Facts of the matter]: • My wife and I made reservations to eat Thanksgiving dinner at 2:00 pm in a private dining room and stay overnight at the Hide Away Country Inn sometime early November. • My work schedule changed and I was forced to cancel our overnight stay but wanted to keep our Dinner Reservation. • After we called to cancel our overnight stay we were told they indeed cancelled it hence, I asked for an E-mail confirmation. I was told it was going to be sent but she was busy at the moment and would send it later. • Two days went by and still no E-mail confirmation was sent so I called again and was told something similar. • I called again the next day and spoke with a gal named Krys Fearing who spoke pleasantly and professionally to us and within 30 seconds had a cancelled E-mail confirmation to us. • We arrived at 1:55 pm Thanksgiving day. • When we arrived there was no one to greet us so we uncomfortably eased our way to what we assumed was a waiting room… (mind you neither Jody nor I ate breakfast and were hungry at this point)… where they stored their deserts. • Around 2:15 pm Jody and I became more frustrated because no one approached us or even seemed concerned that we were there. • One lady in particular would come by from time to time and I said to my wife that I would let her know who we were the next time she comes by. • Hence, I said… “excuse me we are the Kocaks and have a 2:00 pm reservation” whereas she rudely stated… “that’s fine but as you can see we are busy and your going to have to be patient”. • What she said did not bothered my wife and I as much in comparison to how she said it, as well as the fact that we felt very vulnerable at this point because it is Thanksgiving day and we were hungry and couldn’t just get up and leave and go and eat elsewhere. • Jody and I kept our eye on her and thought about reporting her to someone in authority later. • By now it’s about 2:35 pm and Jody and I haven’t been approached formally yet or made to feel welcome at all in contrast felt like we were an inconvenience. • We became more and more hungry by the minute as well as the deserts became more alluring so much so that I asked my wife to hand me one and without a fork lifted the chocolate cake up with my hands and my wife and I ate it together. • Now about 2:50 Krys approaches us and states… “you must be the Kocak’s for the 2:00 pm reservation and said she’s sorry for the delay and stated we would be seated shortly in the private dining room per our reservation agreement. • 3:00 rolls around and people in the main dining room were raping up their dinner but the private room we were promised was still occupied and as a result we were growing more anxious. • Now the same lady who was rude to Jody and I approaches us and offers us a tour of the wine cellar of which we declined as she overtly tells us her name [Debbie Miller] and her title as the “OWNER”. • Shortly after, Krys approaches us again appearing frustrated due to the fact that the guest in the private room was taking so long and offered us a seat in the main dinning room of which we appreciated. I asked… “can you give us an idea as to how much longer they will be in the private room?” • Krys then went in and came back out and said that she hurried them out and that the room would be available momentarily. • We went in around 3:15 whereas Krys waited on us but was getting anxious because she was due to leave soon her self to eat Thanksgiving at home. • This Thanksgiving dinner was one of the most unique and best that Jody and I have ever had. • Until… Debbie…A.K.A… “The owner” comes in to close our ticket and offers us to stay the evening. • Whereas Jody and I struggled to keep our food down and couldn’t wait to get away from her. • Hence, we paid the bill around 4:50 pm and politely tipped her and left.

Linda CooleyMy husband and I stayed for two nights for a weekend getaway. We were very pleased with the entire experience! The rooms were comfy and ultra clean, the staff was extremely kind and helpful, and the food was AMAZING. They have a new chef on board that I recommend reading about on their website. He prepared excellent food for both dinner and breakfast! You can also make reservations for just dinner which I plan on doing in the future. Everything was perfect.

Sany RWe had our wedding here in July, 2010, for 137 guests. Staff was outstanding the Food was to die for... Anything we requested exceeded our expectations. They helped us through the wedding planning experience from planning to Ido. Bar was wonderful, Best Part It was Our Wedding, The wedding I dreamed of. Any of the other places we looked at we had no options to personalize. but here they listened to what we wanted and came back with options to fit our budget. THIS is THE Place to have your wedding. I am looking forward to returning to celebrate our 1st anniversary

KyleMy wife and I first stayed at the HideAway Inn in May 2006. We just returned for a one night stay in July 2010. 4 years was too long between stays. We will surely return and do so more frequently. The Eagle's Nest is the perfect room!

ClarkWe had our wedding there last weekend. It is a beautiful location but the staff is the worst we have ever dealt with. All of our female guests were sexually harrassed by the groundskeeper all night. We were all overcharged for our rooms. Things were added to our bill at the last minute with no explanation for why. They billed the wrong person and ran her credit card without permission. The owner is unwilling to work with anyone in resolving these issues. We stayed 2 nights and for the second day breakfast, we were served the leftovers from yesterday's breakfast. The food is very poor quality. The yogurt was sitting in the window basking in the sun for an hour and a half before breakfast and was warm and disgusting. Food was not fresh or hot. My shoes were stolen. The staff helped themselves to our overpriced keg we purchased from the B&B for our wedding. Also, they finished our $200 dollar bottle of champagne for us. I will never reccomend this place to anyone. Our experience was a nightmare.
