Hawaii HAWAII BIG ISLAND Bed & Breakfast Inns

The island of Hawai'i is the largest but also the youngest of the Hawaiian Islands. It is comprised of seven unique regions. The Hamakua Coast region is known for Hamakua Heritage Corner. This scenic drive offers beautiful gardens, small towns, and many waterfalls, including the famous 442-foot Akaka Falls. Visitors to the Hilo region can explore the 'Imiloa Astronomy Center. This new attraction opened in 2006 and focuses on the integration of science and indigenous cultures. Hilo is also home to the nation's only rainforest zoo, Pane'ewa Rainforest Zoo & Gardens. One of the world's most active volcanoes, Kilauea, is located in the remote Kau region. With only nine inches of rain a year, the Kohala Coast is the perfect region for golf, spas, and fine dining. Coffee lovers will want to venture to the Kona region to sample pure Kona coffee. There's even a Kona Coffee Cultural Festival held each November. History buffs can visit the birthplace of Hawaii's greatest king, King Kamehameha I, in the North Kohala region. Lastly, witness the destructive strength of a volcano in the Puna region. The village of Kalapana was covered in lava in 1990, luckily no lives were lost. Visitors can hike to the viewing spot to see the lava that still flows into the sea.
