Circa 1865. The Civil War had barely ended when builders broke ground on this elegant Italianate mansion. More than a century later, much of its original charm has been maintained. The intricate molding and plasterwork are of the highest quality. Common rooms with Victorian furnishings and appointments complement the architecture. Distinctive antiques include an early 20th-century player piano. A decorative fireplace is featured in each guest bedroom. The Bride's Room, with a lace-draped canopy bed, makes a spacious two- or three-bedroom suite when combined with the Solarium or Groom's rooms. The romantic Honeymoon Suite in the former servants' quarters offers total privacy. Located in the Esplanade Ridge historic district, the French Quarter is just a half-mile walk.

Innkeeper Note

Elegance is the hallmark of this beautiful Italianate-style home. Plaster ceiling medallions adorn the foyer, dining room, parlor and solarium, while the main focal point of the home's interior is the convergence of three separate archways, which extend over the double-parlor and solarium. The union of these arches reaches toward the floor and is suspended effortlessly in mid-air. This area provides the perfect setting for your wedding ceremony or the renewal of your marriage vows. The parlor and solarium are elegantly appointed with Victorian furnishings as well as a 1912 player piano. The dining room features an 11-foot oak table which provides a casually elegant setting for breakfast. Eleven fireplaces grace the home, including two in the parlor, which feature Italian marble mantelpieces. Unique cypress mantels add their own distinctive flavor to each guest room's ambiance. Original cypress millwork and transoms exist throughout the home. The lush garden provides a great setting for reading the morning paper, having an afternoon cocktail, or taking a late-night dip in the hot tub. The base of the home's original cistern provides a home for our Rebecca fountain and Chinese goldfish, while a gazebo sits atop another pond toward the rear of the yard.

I recently stayed at the HH Whitney House when I traveled to New Orleans for a job interview. I could not have asked for a better experience. The house is beautiful and the hospitality is second to none. Glen and Randy went out of their way to make me feel welcome in the city that will soon be my new home. They answered my many questions about the city and even helped me find a new place to live. I could not have asked for better hospitality. They truly made my stay in New Orleans a wonderful experience. The HH Whitney House definitely provides its guests with true southern hospitality. Stay here...you are in for a real treat!!!
