Description

Circa 1868. A historic setting by the sea in the village of Mendocino complements this New England Victorian Salt Box. The quaintness of the past combines with amenities of the present. Meet new friends sharing afternoon tea and cookies in the parlor. Almost all of the romantic guest bedrooms feature fireplaces, comfortable feather beds with down comforters, fresh flowers and bedside chocolates. Some have white-water ocean views. A cottage provides more spacious privacy. Indulge in a full breakfast delivered to the room with homemade treats and creative entrees. The front porch is also an ideal spot for ocean views. Lawn seating gives ample opportunity to enjoy the year-round English garden. Many unique shops and fine restaurants are within walking distance.

Historic Interest

The Inn was built in 1868 as a small barbershop on Main St. in Mendocino, Calif. In 1884 the building became a "high class" restaurant, The Oyster and Coffee Saloon. The owner at that time was W.J. Wilson, and he used the upstairs as an annex to The Wilson Hotel. George Switzer purchased the house in 1893 and moved it to the present location. It was transported by horses pulling the house over logs. John & Bessie Strauss bought the house in 1924 and resided there until 1979.

Bonuses

We could not have been happier with our stay. The room was so comfy. The hosts friendly and helpful in a non-intrusive way. Just our style. We’ve never had such luscious breakfasts – and delivered to your room, with only a knock to say: Breakfast is served! As a bonus – free phone to anywhere (honest) and snacks way beyond what other inns provide. We recommend this place to any traveler who wants to be spoiled royally. Nobel Prize

If a Nobel Prize were given for breakfasts, you would win hands down. A singularly joyous experience!!
