Terrible disappointment

Toward the end of my very first trip to Vermont, we decided to stay at what we thought would be a charming spot. So far, the vacation had been ideal in every way. Beyond the entrance sign, there were no signs indicating which way we should turn to get into the B&B area. When drove around a bit before, through process of elimination, turning left into the location of the B&B. We mentioned our difficulty to the proprietress, and she said, without a trace of a smile, "You didn't print out your information, did you?" We immediately felt that we'd been chastised. The gentleman who showed us to our cabin might as well have given us a tape deck entitled "Instructions" to listen to. I asked a question in the midst of his spiel, and he paused, clearly annoyed at my interruption. After he'd left, we said, "Oh my God! Do you want to stay here? This is awful." We folded up the bedspread and put the pillows on top of it in the corner, because we were very concerned about the cleanliness of the place -- There was a mildew smell and the bathroom had a distinct odor of urine. The only good thing about Grunberg Haus was the wood stove and a gorgeous, friendly, Collie dog that belongs to the owners. Grunberg Haus could be a fine place, but the proprietors need to smile more, be more welcoming, and have a better sense of what hospitality means -- along with freshness and cleanliness. Perhaps they should hire better cleaners or if they're doing it themselves, use disinfectant. Mildew and the odor of urine are definite turn-offs. When we decided to leave a day early, we were double-charged and admonished, "You didn't read your contract, did you?"
