Great, small, personalized hotel in a B&B style. Walkable to many of the attractions in the center of S-F. Antique, birdcage elevator lends to the unique feel of the hotel. Parking in garage across street is particularly convenient given general scarcity and expense of parking in city and it is notably less costly than most of the other inns/hotels we considered.

Circa 1913. News travels far when there's a bargain. Half of the guests visiting this four-story Edwardian hotel at the foot of Nob Hill are from abroad. Great bay windows on each floor provide many of the rooms with gracious spaces at humble prices. An original bird cage elevator kept in working order floats between floors. Antiques, fresh flowers, and afternoon tea further add to the atmosphere. Union Square is two-and-a-half blocks from the hotel.
