Description
Circa 1745. This 250-year-old inn, once owned by the grandson of William Penn, is surrounded by three wooded acres and is filled with 18th-century charm. The rooms are simple and elegant, featuring chandeliers, painted woodwork, quilts and period reproductions. Each of the guest rooms offers a special touch. The Presidential Suite features a sitting room with a fireplace, while the William Penn Suite boasts an original cathedral window. Other rooms include four-poster beds and fireplaces. Meals at the General Warren are a delight in one of the inn's three elegant candle-lit dining rooms. Start with a Caesar salad, prepared tableside or with a stuffed Portabello mushroom. Follow that with Beef Wellington and complete the meal with homemade Grand Marnier ice cream. Summer dishes feature locally grown produce and herbs from the inn's organic gardens. Gourmet magazine rated the inn's restaurant as one of Philadelphia's Top Tables.
