Located on Johntown Creek six and a half miles north-northwest of Chili Bar, Garden Valley is a small rural community situated in El Dorado County at the top of Marshall Grade north of Coloma on the Georgetown Divide. Garden Valley was formerly known as Johntown and it got its old name from the sailor who discovered gold on that same site.
