Great Innkeeper

This bed and breakfast was close to downtown. The rooms were nice and the innkeeper was so welcoming. We never did the breakfast part of bed and breakfast because we were out and about early, but she always had warm Muffins ready for us at 7 am.

Garden Gate

Robin was a wonderful hostess. She knew the area well and suggested places to go and see and eat. The service was great. This is the first time I have ever given 5 stars. Her cooking was great and you never left the table hungry. She has wonderful gardens around the house, with butterflies. Her motto is come as a guest and leave as a friend. You don't feel like just a customer with her you feel like family. We'll go back again.

Garden Gate Bed & Breakfast

My wife and I had a wonderful time there. Robin was very helpful telling us places of interest and how to get there. She is a wonderful hostess. The rooms were very clean and neat. She had a small fridge in the hall with water and pop for the guests, also had snacks that she made in the hallway (cookies and cake). Her gardens are amazing in the front and back of the house. Her food was unbelievable, was like eating in a high class restaurant. Will go back again.

The perfect first B&B experience

This was our first ever stay in a bed and breakfast and it absolutely exceeded our expectations. Robin was the most amazing hostess and made us feel at home from the very beginning. My boyfriend and I both say that was the best breakfast we have ever had (and being a world traveler, that's saying a lot!). The room was cozy and cute and we had a wonderful relaxing time in our tub for two. The tub even came with fancy bath salts which was such a nice touch! We also had a gorgeous balcony (which for night people like us was fantastic to have a safe outdoor area to stargaze and chat without bothering others). Robin also had a selection of movies available to us, and the room came with a bottle opener (perfect for us wine people!) It's like the room was made just for us - it was honestly perfect. The only things were that the bed was not extremely comfortable but it did just fine, and there was no counter space at all in the bathroom. There was plenty of space to set things in the bedroom, however, which helped. Robin also provided us with Door County cherry wine, which we'd never had, at a very very reasonable price, which impressed us very much! Overall, it was a perfect time with excellent service.

Outstanding Stay

We had a wonderful stay at the Garden Gate B&B. The room was comfortable and nicely decorated, the main areas inviting. The breakfast both days was delicious and filling. Robin is a great hostess. She provided us with lots of options for things to do and places to eat for dinner. We really enjoyed the fish boil at Pelliter's. We really enjoyed Door County!

Robin was a great hostess. Beautiful well kept home. She shared the history of the home and surrounding area. Even shared funny stories about the community. Breakfasts were outstanding. Antiques galore.

Great Experience

Robin is a wonderful host. She offered a delicious piece of cake at check-in and some great advice what to see in the area. The breakfast was outstanding and the house is beautiful – a true home away from home. I’d certainly come back if I’m in the area again.

Good experience

We enjoyed our one-night stay. Robin was a very friendly hostess. The breakfast was delicious and filling. Robin was very accommodating in preparing our breakfast early to allow us to arrive on time to a scheduled tour that we had. She also prepared delicious brownies for an evening treat. Our room was clean and comfortable. Then to top it all off, Robin took our picture just before we left and mailed us a copy! Very thoughtful! We recommend this B&B to anyone staying in the Sturgeon Bay area.

Outstanding Value

This was my wife's and mine first ever stay at a B&B. What a outstanding experience. We didn't know what to expect, but Robin was a fantastic host and innkeeper. The rooms were decorated very nice and were very comfortable. It made us feel like we were at home. And then there was the breakfast. Delicious!!!!! We couldn't even eat all of it, and Robyn sent the homemade muffins with us for later. We would definitely stay again.

Hospitality Plus!

Robin is an outstanding innkeeper. The breakfast menus were so delicious. We've stayed in Door County several times before, but this trip was our first stay in Sturgeon Bay. We were glad we chose Garden Gate B&B.

A Great Stay in Sturgeon Bay

We go up to Door County every fall, but this was the first time we stayed in Sturgeon Bay. We're really glad we chose the Garden Gate. Robin is very friendly and knowledgeable about the area, and her breakfasts are wonderful! The inn is conveniently located within walking distance of downtown, so we had a great time exploring the city.

Wonderful B&B

My husband and I stayed at Garden Gate B&B for July 4th weekend and we had a wonderful experience. Robin is a great hostess! She makes the most delicious breakfast and really feeds you well. She also packs her freshly baked muffins for your rest of the day :) It was a fantastic experience and we would definitely go back and stay there again.

Romantic Weekend Getaway

My husband and I stayed at the Garden Gate Bed and Breakfast for 2 nights in late June to celebrate our wedding anniversary. When we arrived, Robin greeted us warmly, showed us around the home, and took us to our room to get settled in. We stayed in the English Lavender room and upon our arrival Robin had a bottle of chilled wine for us along with an anniversary card. We were very pleased with the thoughtful gesture. While the English Lavender room is the most expensive in the home, it is well worth the price especially if you're seeking romance. The double whirlpool tub with bath salts was so relaxing. You can dim the lights, light candles (provided), turn on some soft tunes (provided), and sip your cares away on some delicious Door County wine. In the morning, my husband and I enjoyed sitting outside on the balcony drinking coffee before breakfast. If you're looking for a stunning view you won't get it here since the home is across the street from the ship yard, but we enjoyed watching the huge cranes move back and forth (you can hear some noise from the ship yard in the morning). Robin's breakfasts were spectacular! The table was set beautifully and had lots of fresh flowers. It was basically a 3 course breakfast with homemade muffins, a fresh fruit or yogurt parfait, and the main course. Everything was delicious and very filling (Robin suggested saving the muffins for later). The breakfast itself makes the price of the room well worth it! In the evening, Robin even had a homemade cake in the upstairs hallway to delight in. I would highly recommend staying at the Garden Gate Bed and Breakfast in Sturgeon Bay. It's not right on the beaten path, but it is close enough to get to everything you want to see in Sturgeon Bay and throughout Door County.

Wonderful Stay at Garden Gate

Garden Gate is located conveniently near downtown Sturgeon Bay, walking distance to restaurants, the Third Avenue playhouse, the park where fireworks were held and the farmers’ market on Saturday morning. We stayed for six nights in the English Lavender room over the July 4th week. Our room had a lovely private balcony and a two person Jacuzzi. Robin is a delightful hostess and a great cook who prepared delicious and nutritious breakfast that was filling enough to last until dinner. She went out and picked strawberries for us and even sent us home with a jar of her homemade strawberry sauce. We recommend Garden Gate enthusiastically!

Excellent B&B

We had a wonderful stay at the Garden Gate. Robin, the hostess, is so charming. She is also a wealth of information about things going on in Sturgeon Bay. She makes great suggestions on places to visit and what to do after she speaks with you and finds those things that interest you. Breakfast is a treat. The ambiance is great. The food is fantastic. And the muffins, you must try.. Great location for the Garden Gate. It is close to town, so you can make a walking trip in and spend time looking around and buying things to take take home. I highly recommend this place for your stay in Door County.

Outstanding!

This was the 3rd B&B we've stayed in and it raised the bar considerably for the next one! Robin (the hostess) is there to greet you and make you feel comfortable in her beautiful Victorian home. Her breakfasts are amazing, and there's always a hot cup of coffee waiting for you. She also bakes cookies, cakes and other desserts for your evening sweet tooth! I would definitely recommend this place to stay in!

Wonderful stay at Garden Gate

We stayed at the Garden Gate in July 2013. The rooms were very clean and well decorated. The breakfasts were scrumptious! The innkeeper gave us good advice about what to do and where to eat. She made us feel right at home. The location was very convenient and close to the river where we could enjoy a nice walk. We would stay there again.

Fantastic Get-A-Way!

My wife and I have stayed at the Garden Gate for our anniversary weekend at least 3 times in the last few years, and will be going back again this year. Wonderful Victorian home, with the best home-made breakfast you'll find anywhere! The hostess (Robin) is a joy. We look forward to our romantic weekend each year.

Wonderful

My wife and I had wanted to visit Door County for sometime now. We finally got a chance to break away for a few days this past July. We had never stayed in a BB before, so we decided this would be our opportunity. I selected the Garden Gate from the WEB, because the pictures of the rooms looked like the type of BB we were looking for and we wanted a full breakfast. Plus, it was close enough to town that we could leave our car parked and walk to the nearest coffee shop. Of course Robin had plenty of coffee and goodies for us right outside of our bedroom, but we still enjoyed our walk into town. We were not at all disappointed, in fact we must come here again. We had a great time even though we only stayed one night. Robin is a wonderful hostess! The house is beautiful and so historic! The food was excellent. Plus, the price was right. You must stay here!

Our stay at Garden Gate was a most enjoyable experience. From Robin's hospitality, to her excellent cooking and late night treats, our whole weekend will be one to remember. She simply could not do enough for us. The Lavender Room was very romantic and comfortable...the whirlpool bath is a great touch to this room. Thanks again Robin for everything!! John and Vicki

Wonderful B&B in Door County!

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at Garden Gate. There was a freshly baked cake when we got there (made a great midnight snack!), movies and CDs to borrow and most importantly, a wonderful breakfast with great conversation in the morning! I will definitely stay here again!

We cannot say enough about the wonderful food and table settings that were prepared every morning awaiting us, not to mention the special cakes and bars placed by our bedroom door in the evening when we came home from a big day out. Robin, we thank you for everything! Cort and Donna Valparaiso

Anniversary

Our 34th wedding anniversary was spent in Door County this past month and we had a wonderful experience staying at Garden Gate Bed & Breakfast in Sturgeon Bay. Robin Vallow, innkeeper, was extremely helpful with her advice on travel within the county and what to see.

Best Birthday weekend ever!

My husband and I stayed at Garden Gate for my Birthday weekend back in May and could not have been more pleased! Robin was such a joy in the mornings and the food is just amazing!!! I've been raving about the french toast since! Yum! And the chocolate cake was yummy too! I was very touched by the little gift for my Birthday as well. We stayed in the Lavender Room and man did I enjoy that whirlpool tub!!!

geo cachers delight

Robin was most gracious and a wonderful host. Excellent food and the extra treats were out of this world. Robin should add geo caching to her list of near by activities.

Special romantic 10th anniversary

How do we begin to tell how special our time was at the Garden Gate. Robin our host was marvelous. The room we got was absolutely romantic. Wine, an anniversary card, candles, soft music, we could go on and on. Her cakes are fantastic, and breakfast delicious. Robin left nothing undone. We couldn't have asked for a more relaxing and romantic get-a-way. And to top it all of we received in the mail today a card from her with a picture of us enclosed. What a special touch. Thank you again Robin.

Robyn is the reason to stay at this B&B. She picks fresh strawberries, makes incredible breakfasts, provides nightly treats, and goes above and beyond other B&B's.

Excellent breakfast

I was stuffed each morning with a full breakfast that included juice, coffee, muffins, fruit and the main dish. The evening desserts are scrumptious too! The best room in the house is the English lavender room with it's whirlpool and private balcony. The rooms are spotless and I highly recommend the Garden Gate!

Last minute getaway!

We had a last minute invite to go on a charter and needed a place to stay. There was limited availability in Door County, but Robin had an opening for the night that we needed. Robin was so helpful, and made sure that we had everything that we needed to enjoy our stay, including delicious food. We had never stayed at a B&B before have already talked about staying here again in the future!

Excellent Breakfast!

My previous review had an error with the property ratings and it should have been 5 hearts on everything. Breakfast is awesome with a full spread of items including juice, coffee, muffins, fruit and the main dish. The rooms are comfortable and spotless. My favorite room is the English Lavender with its private deck and double whirlpool. Robin is a true hostess!

First Time B&B

This was the first time my wife and I had stayed at a B&B. Robin and Garden Gate were great. Our room was great and the food was fantastic. I know my wife enjoyed the treats that Robin had laid out in the evening. I would highly recommend Garden Gate to anyone staying in the Door County area. Kevin H.

A wondeful place to stay

My Wife and I stayed at the Garden Gate for a romantic get-a-way to celebrate our first anniversary. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and Robin was delightful. The breakfast truly is fantastic every morning and the rates are better than reasonable. On our next first to Door County we will definitely be staying with Robin again! Ben Westra

Nice Entry Point to Door County

Robin was a very nice hostest with great cooking skills. We stayed two nights ane both breakfast were fantastic. We were able to wrap the muffin(s) to take with for our day travel. An added bonus was each evening there was a desert waiting upstairs for the guest. The house is located one block from downtown area. She loves to flower and the grounds were full of flowers. The main floor was neat and had a living room for you to relax and talk to other guest or Robin. The breakfast area is the next room over. During breakfast she play relaxing music as well. There are 4 rooms and we stayed at the largest one, I think lavender room. It has a large whirlpool tub. The room was a nice size and decorate in lavendar colors. There are nice sayings related to a loving relationship. There is a gust book that isi fun to thumb through while sitting on a private porch. There is a ship yard across the street, but you still get a view of the bay. Just north of the house (short car ride) is a nice place to view sunsets.

40th anniversary getaway

Our 2 night stay at Garden Gate B&B was a delight. The breakfasts were oh so good; just like the brochure promised and more. Our room was tastefully decorated & immaculately clean. The little amenities such as homemade snacks and hot coffee in the morning made us feel pampered. We would definitely recommend Garden Gate as a destination for anyone visiting Door County.

A Home Away from Home

Our stay at the Garden Gate B & B afforded us a great location, superb living quarters, and high quality breakfasts. Conveniently located near downtown Surgeon Bay, we made regular visits to several great restaurants, a modern library, a quaint old bookstore, and a superb YMCA. Not only was our room on the second floor very comfortable, we had access to a lovely living room area on the first floor. We were most impressed with Robin's breakfasts and extensive knowledge of the lives of Door County residents.
