Our two-room Hawthorne Suite features a queen-size canopy bed, and is so named for the Innkeeper's great-great-great- grandfather, Nathaniel Hawthorne. Historic Interest
Fensalden Inn was a Wells Fargo Stagecoach Stop in the mid-1800s. Sitting atop Navarro Ridge, just 7 miles south of Mendocino Village, Fensalden Inn was 1 of 15 taverns along a 12 mile stretch of road, which used to be part of the main highway from the Bay area to Eureka.
The Main House consists of the original tavern and inn, which were joined together in the early 70s when the property was renovated into a bed and breakfast.

“A WARM HUG!”
Emberlyn Nordhaus6/16/2010
Staying here is like a WARM HUG! Easily overlooked because it is on the wrong side of the highway and your first thoughts would be that there is no ocean view, or at least not one worth looking at, but if you let that stop you not only would you be missing out on the incredible ocean views, but all of the wonders that this quaint inn has to offer.
My husband and I stayed in the Tower Suite for our 10 year Anniversary. Bob (one of the innkeepers) greeted us at the door with a hug, a welcome and a bottle of champagne in our room. In the morning we were served a gourmet three course breakfasts with goodies such as baked pears in a raspberry sauce with raspberry sorbet, Dutch boys, and fresh squeezed orange juice, and hot muffins baked just for us. Add to this that they seated us in front of the huge windows that not only over looked a stunning meadow but the ocean just beyond. I could not have asked for a more romantic weekend.
What sets this place apart for anywhere else I have ever stayed is the atmosphere created by the family who own and runs the place. This is their home, and they make you feel like welcome friends not paying customers. Its in the little details easily over looked, like the warm crackling fire let to die down in the corner of the room, or how they set out feed for the birds just moments before you were due to sit down, so that the meadow was full of life, and you eating breakfast with dozens of hummingbirds literally on the other side of the window. It’s the easy conversation, and how they take what they learn about you and point you in the right direction so that you and truly enjoy your time there.
I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a romantic get away, or someone looking to recharge a stressed out tired soul.
*** Also they are Dog friendly and can help you find a puppy sitter for the day so you and your pups can have fun. Next time we are bringing our dog****

My husband and I spent two relaxing nights with these very nice hosts. The food was thoughtfully prepared. Hosts were helpful and very friendly. The view from the Headlands room provides a lovely look at both the ocean and the garden.

Fensalden Inn is a fantastic spot for those who seek respite from frenetic city life. Situated on several acres of land overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the ambience is of peace and serenity. The host and staff are warm, friendly, cheerful and helpful. What more could one ask?

“Piece of Heaven ”
Martin\'s6/15/2008
We recently returned from our 4th trip to stay at Fensalden Inn, and it was just as wonderful as always!! It is beautiful, peaceful, and a great place to go to get away from it all and relax and recharge. The inn is so quaint, beautiful and nice. Lyn and Bob, the innkeepers are so nice and have made each of our stays so wonderful. They are very helpful and the breakfast is so yummy and delighful! We will go back again and again for a break from the rat race of the Bay Area. Fendalden is truely a little piece of Heaven on Earth.
