“Girls Overnight with Colonial Feast!!”
Karen MyhaverOxford, MA
2/13/2011
My two sisters and I took our mother to Elias Child House for an overnight and Colonial Feast on February 12-13. We didn't want to leave! The house is wonderful and Mary Beth and Tony the owners and our host and hostess, have mixed antiques with family heirlooms and some humorous touches to make it both welcoming and homey. You don't feel like you are in a museum and can't touch or sit on things. Beds were cozy with ample blankets and quilts, rooms were quaint and comfortable with wonderful personal touches as well historic furnishigs. When you arrive you become more of a family member than a guest-playing with the puppy Nell or watching squirrels take on the bird feeder while savoring a custom made breakfast (with gourmet touches.) The Colonial Feast is something I would highly recommend. Guests assist in the preparation of the meal which is done in one of the large fireplaces and beehive oven. Luscious breads and a lavender birthday cake for our mother-just yummy. Ham on a spit, sweet potato soup, seasonings that we chopped or grated our own churned whipped cream...fabulous!Mary Beth and Tony are fascinating people with terrific stories to share- they assured that we felt right at home and were so accomodating.
We were planning our return trip before we left... Does that say enough??

We have been in B&B's in many places within the US and in Europe since 1987, and this was the best experience we have had. Rooms great, ambiance perfect, hosts outstanding and if you get a chance, make sure you include a hearth side dinner as part of your stay.

“Romantic Country Escape”
Alex C2/17/2010
The Elias Child House is run by wonderful innkeepers, who are welcoming and accommodating. Breakfasts were huge and delicious, with a fruit course and bread as well as the main entrees. Our room had two beds; the one we slept in was very comfortable. The bathroom was quite small but functional -- and the size ended up being a perk because the old house is drafty and could get quite cold in our room, but the small bathroom warmed up quickly with the shower going. We had a fireplace in our room and had fires at bedtime (there was no smoke in the room at all). The common rooms were comfortable with books and magazines around and fires crackling. The property is beautiful with lovely views out the windows and many acres of hiking trails.
