Circa 1849. Among its expansive 7,000 square feet, this Gothic Revival mansion includes high ceilings, a double parlor, 10 fireplaces and a double spiral staircase. The plantation has an incredible history. It rests along the oldest highway in the United States, and it was once part of the Berkeley Plantation, the ancestral home of President William Henry Harrison. The inn's Civil War history is as fascinating as the authentic Victorian decor. Both innkeepers are antique dealers, and among the vintage pieces they've included in the inn are canopy beds dating back to 1790, 1818 and 1820. Breakfasts are served with fine silver, china and pewter on a Queen Anne table surrounded by Chippendale chairs. The innkeepers attention to detail is impressive, especially during the Christmas season when 18 decorated trees are placed throughout the inn. A few yards from the inn is a three-story mill with an unusual inside mill wheel built in 1725.
