Arrowhead Inn

The home's original owners, the Lipscombe family, and later residents made several additions to this Colonial manor home, but left original features such as moldings, wainscoting, mantelpieces and heart-of-pine floors. A marker and stone arrowhead designate the land as the former location of the Great Path between mountains and Virginia, which was traveled by many Catawba and Waxhaw Indians. Rustic rooms are decorated to complement the fine woodwork. Quilts and canopy beds create a comfortable, romantic feeling. The Land Grant Cabin features rustic furnishings, a fireplace and sleeping loft set among its cozy wooden walls. The innkeepers take pride in creating a different feast every morning for breakfast. The inn is close to Duke University. The inn is winner of the Durham Chamber of Commerce 1st annual Micro Business Award.

Blooming Garden Inn

Blooming Garden is an apt name for this bed & breakfast celebrating its 16th year in business, as the inn is surrounded by colorful gardens. The exterior is dotted with a bright mix of perennials and annuals. The inn is located in the Holloway Historic District in downtown Durham. Each guest room is artfully appointed with a different, colorful theme. For instance, the Tiffany Room is accentuated with stained-glass pieces. The Moroccan Room is dressed in dramatic hues of dark green, gold and red. Each room offers a special bed, as well. Most impressive is the mid-19th-century carved Rosewood bed in the Morning Glory Suite. The inn's luxury suites include a double Jacuzzi tub. Homemade ginger waffles topped with a creamy lemon curd are among the specialties served for breakfast. For guests planning an extended stay in the area, the innkeepers offer accommodations in Holly House, a nicely furnished, restored Victorian home. The home includes a suite and three guest rooms, common areas, access to a kitchen, phone, washer and dryer. Although the beds are topped with goose down pillows, the innkeepers are sensitive to those with allergies and can accommodate guests' needs.
