Circa 1883. The Columns was built by Simon Hernsheim, a tobacco merchant, who was the wealthiest philanthropist in New Orleans. The two-story columned gallery and portico provide a grand entrance into this restored mansion. The estate was selected by Paramount Studios for the site of the movie "Pretty Baby," with Brooke Shields. The hotel is in the National Register of Historic Places. Jazz performances are scheduled Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and during the Sunday champagne brunch.
