Romantic Interest
Two acres of lush mountain foliage with a view of Satulah Mountain and berry gardens, wide two-story high veranda, peaceful location, comfortable rooms with antiques, fine linens, interesting accessories, gourmet breakfasts with music, afternoon sherry, tea, & cookies, clean, fresh mountain air.
Historic Interest
The Inn began as a small mountain cabin which was expanded into a family home by the McKinneys, the Piersons, and the Cleavelands. In 1961, it was bought by Irene Cole from Florida, reoriented on the property, and completely renovated into a tourist home. John & Florence Lupoli from Florida bought it in 1972 and operated it until 1984, when it was sold to Chris & Donna Alley from Atlanta who turned it into a bed and breakfast.

“What a Great Experience!”
Butch & Carol DMaryville, TN
12/6/2010
My wife and I had never stayed in a bed & breakfast here in the States (we are retired military and frugal) until this week when we lucked out and spent 3 nights at the Colonial Pines Inn in Highlands, NC. Wow, what a great experience! The room was spotless, rustic, cozy, charming and comfortable, and the common areas (fireplace and seating area, dining room, and pantry with 24 hour snacks) were also well-appointed, homey, and inviting. The gourmet breakfasts were exceptional and the proprietors, Chris and Donna Alley, were perfect hosts, anxious to meet every need and offer great advice on what to do and see in Highlands. The rates were very reasonable, especially when compared to other nearby B&Bs. We are planning to return in the early summer and we can strongly recommend the Colonial Pines Inn without any hesitation.

“We love the Colonial Pines Inn!”
Ricci B8/4/2010
We have been coming to Highlands and the Colonial Pines Inn B&B for at least 8 years. One year we tried staying in several B&B's over a week, but we'll never do that again. We find everything we want at the Colonia Pines. It's quiet, peaceful, interesting, fun, relaxing. Donna's afternoon beverages and dainties are delightful on the porch. Her breakfasts are superb every single morning and fills one up for a day of hiking or shopping or mountain climbing. Chris is the most reponsive inn keeper we've ever met, and he's very knowledgeable about many topics. Every third week of July, you'll find us in the "Sunflower Room" (they call it the Bargain Basement, but that's not a nice enought name for it). Thank you, Donna and Chris, for another lovely stay. ~Dee and Ricci Black

“Just right for us.”

We don't have much B&B experience yet: but, I'm sure that Colonial Pines will be the standard to measure all others. The accommodations, the food, location ambiance were just right for us. The hospitality was the very best.

InnSide Tip - Fly fishing,
Get a guide for the most fun. I had a great experience fishing small streams with Gordon Vanderpool, a local.
