Circa 1879. Captain Augustus Emmerton, one of the last Salem natives to earn his living from maritime commerce, built this stately home. Emmerton's house is an imposing example of Second Empire architecture and situated just two blocks from the harbor in a Salem historic district. Guest rooms are cheerful and romantic, furnished with antiques, four-poster beds and Oriental rugs. The House of Seven Gables and the Salem Witch Museum are nearby. Boston is just a short drive away.
