“Repeat Offender- We've Been 3 Times”
Katie MeyerWe have been to the Cloran Mansion three times now. We got engaged there seven years ago and have been back two more times. The breakfasts are fabulous, rooms, are great, and the innkeepers are very hospitable. It feels like home!

“Intimate wedding weekend”
Melissa FreitasMy fiancé and I were looking for an intimate wedding setting and found the Cloran Mansion online. We went for a visit and knew right away this was our place. We set the wedding date and contacted Cheryl and Carmine with the details (colors, number of guests, etc). Cheryl and Carmine took care of all of the ordering and details and made the planning and day stress free. Being that the wedding was in April, the weather was iffy - but they were prepared for anything that was coming our way. Thankfully the weather that day was beautiful - like everything else. We stayed in the cottage and it was very cozy, it had everything we needed. Loved the hot tub and the fire place. We chose a movie from the vast dvd library and enjoyed our evening in. Thank you so very much for the wonderful stay Cheryl and Carmine, we can't wait to come back to visit you. #93

What a wonderful getaway we had. Everything was as expected and more....down to the chocolates in the entryway. Cheryl and Carmine were very warm and friendly. We had great chats about hobbies, interests, and great places to eat. The food was wonderful and plentiful. Their attention to detail and comfort was appreciated. If you are looking for a private, quiet place to reconnect for a night or two you will enjoy your stay here. The house is beautiful. Thanks! See ya soon!

“Great Weekend at Cloran Mansion”
Linn Weisscloran mansion, IL
What a wonderful, restful, memorable weekend at the Cloran Mansion B&B with hosts Cheryl and Carmine! With the B&B beautifully decked out for the winter holidays, and a warm glowing fireplace in our Sara's Suite, we immediately felt at home -- a very lovingly maintained home. The innkeepers' breakfast hospitality included delicious Danish aebleskiver pancakes, sphere-shaped doughy goodness that resembled a light, fluffy popover. Our country breakfasts each morning, along with the B&B's many other amenities, made for a very pleasant, fun weekend. Cloran Mansion and Galena's distinctive setting -- its surrounding hills, limestone cliffs and river valley; its historic legacy; its vintage storefronts, restaurants, galleries, shopping, and golf and skiing -- are a perfect fit!

“Great Bed & Breakfast”
Marc WitwerOur stay at the Cloran Mansion was a wonderful experience. It all started with making our reservation Cheryl was so warm and helpful on the phone, after talking to her I knew we made the right choice. We arived and was greated by Carmine he showed us around the Mansion and explained everything we needed to know. Then the breakfast we walked into the dining room greated with smiles, the table was set to a T, and the food oh my was delicious. Our room was so warm and cozy, all the homey touches. They made our 40th anniversary very special. We will be back.

“AMAZING so peaceful and accomodatin”
Jennifer VegaI recently stayed in the Cloran Mansion Condo at Longhollow and it was amazing. The secluded condo gave us real privacy and the charm of the room was a once in a lifetime experience. As a yonger couple this was wonderful it gave us the charm of a B&B with all the modern luxuries of a swimming pool, hot tub, double jacuzzi tub, two flat screen TV's and a blueray player. In the morning you get to drive a short 10 minutes for a free wonderful breakfast with the inn-keepers. A truly memorable experience, I will def. be returning!

“A wonderful experience”
Duane OlsonMy wife and I loved our stay at Cloran Mansion, Galena, Ilinois. Carmen and Cheryl greeted us warmly, and showed us around their dining area, and made us feel very welcome. They showed us to our lovely room on the second floor. WE stayed in Ann's room, which was very attractive and included a fireplace, brass bed, stereo CD/DVD player and cable TV, and a large private whirlpool bath in an enclosed porch which had many windows overlooking a working farm.
Next to our room was the library which had a very large collection of videos and CD's, books, magazines, and board games, as well as coffee and tea and popcorn.
The large and delicious six-course breakfast was served family style, and and included several juice choices, as well as tea and coffee. Everything was delicious, and our hosts made us feel very welcome and comfortable. The dining area was beautiful, with fine china and crystal with a wonderfully attractive room. We enjoyed meeting and conversing with the other guests staying at the Mansion during our breakfast time together. Also, we enjoyed the time to talk with our hosts,Carmine and Cheryl, as they shared information about themselves and how they came to Cloran Mansion.
The grounds around the Mansion are beautiful. The many flowers, the gazebo, the fish pond and waterfall, the outside fire pit area, and the large trees around Cloran Mansion made it so picture-perfect. The location on the edge of Galena was ideal, and provided a wonderful and peaceful place to stay.
We highly recommend Cloran Mansion as a delightful place to stay.

“We WILL Be Back!”
Debra HayWe stayed at Cloran Mansion and because we were staying in the cottage we were thrilled to be able to bring our puppies along! From the moment we got there we felt at home. It was our anniversary get-away and it could not have been more perfect! Carmine showed us around the cottage and property and we settled in. Breakfasts were beyond belief. Simple things like boysenberry syrup were such a joy! Conversation with the other guests and Carmine and Cheryl were so enjoyable...along with the extras...like Carmine making restaurant reservations at area restaurants...then asking who would like to take them. Made dinner so wonderful for those who did not know the area. I am so looking forward to my next trip there and believe we won't wait until next year...but perhaps in a couple of months!

“One of the best B&Bs I've stayed in”
Rochelle DickinsonMilwaukee, WI
The Cloran Mansion is a fabulous B&B. My husband and I wanted a quiet, private mini-vacation and that's exactly what we found at the Cloran Mansion. Carmine and Cheryl are incredibly kind and always there if you need them but also very respectful of our desire for privacy. The homemade breakfasts are amazing. Even the grounds around the mansion are nice with an outdoor firepit and screened in gazebo. We would highly recommend the Cloran Mansion to anyone looking for a great place to stay in Galena.

“Better than expected which is great”
John VWe stayed in Antonio's Cottage which has every amenity we could think of. The attention to detail is subtle but noticed. Carmine and Cheryl have a very lovely historic property in an interesting corner of Americana in Galena. While the property is filled with nostalgia, the modern extras were very much appreciated. We spent an hour in the gazebo listening to the waterfall and watching the koi fish. The wife loved the firepit coffee table and two other couples joined us until midnight around the campfire telling fellow traveler tales. The Cloran hosts weddings and one was scheduled for the day we left. The energy and service of the hosts was special to watch for the young couple.
Carmine has a great selection of DVD's and the TV must have a gazillion movie channels when we had a chance to crash. Our cottage was very private and as cozy as you could want, from the swivel bigscreen TV to the hot tub and comfy bedding. The next morning breakfast was as good as advertised (which was six courses). For all of you accountants out there, it was : fruit, pancakes, eggs, potatoes, sausage, muffin as well as juices and coffee. We didn't need anything, but if we had, Carmine and Cheryl would have fixed us up we are sure.
Sometimes, you want to try a sure thing. That is our recommendation for the Cloran Mansion Bed and Breakfast.

“Romantic and Charming Getaway”
Debra LarsonOur first Bed and Breakfast getaway was a wonderful experience. It totally exceeded our expectations. The room was just beautiful as were the grounds the mansion resided on. The full breakfast every am. was outstanding - the variety each day was great as were all the home-made items - we loved the french toast and the pancake puffs and lemon curd that were offered along with eggs made to order. We also had the opportunity to have a "couples massage" along with a private dinner for two in the Bay Window of the Victorian dining room. Carmine and Cheryl were the perfect "Host" and "Hostesses". We truly enjoyed the conversations we had with them and the other guests staying at the mansion. There were many extra extra touches we appreciated such as the treats set out every day in the foyer when you returned home after a day of shopping or sight-seeing, the stocked refrigerator with refreshments along with the stocked library with coffee and assorted teas, the heated towel rack beside the whirlpool tub, and the comfy bath robes that were in our closet. The Tower Room had beautiful views from every window - we loved climbing up to the Cupola where the whirlpool tub was at - it was very romantic. We also loved the special touch of an Anniversary card with a Bride and Groom cookie because we were celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary. Charming, romantic and intimate would describe our whole bed and breakfast experience. We are definitely looking forward to coming back and experiencing one of the other lovely rooms the Cloran Mansion has to offer.

“Great Escape Weekend!”
Lisa ScottWhat an outstanding weekend. Stayed in Antonio's Cottage and it was like being in a home away from home. It was very spacious and comfortable and cozy. The cottage had real warmth about it. It has a CD player, TV, and DVD player. The whirlpool bath was so very soothing.
From the moment we arrived, we wanted for nothing. Carmen showed us around the bed and breakfast and then over to the Cottage. He explained everything very clearly. He made five dinner reservations different restaurants around town in case the guests had not made prior arrangements.
There were games, music, movies and cards readily available for your use.
The breakfasts were superb and very plentiful. During breakfast, you got a chance to meet and interact with other guests and learn about their experiences about town.
The Cloran Mansion is very conveniently located about a mile from Main Street and all the sites.
The property is so beautiful; there's a fire pit and a gazebo where you can sit and enjoy nature by the pond and waterfall. They also have a heart-shaped arch where you can cozy up to your special someone for a nice photo opportunity.
We enjoyed everything and was sorry we had to leave.
I highly recommend this Inn. Book your room soon and enjoy; you won't be disappointed.

Mike + Brenda TrothSecor, IL
We had a great stay in the Tower Room for our anniversary. Although the stairs are tricky, the hot tub in the tower is a wonderful little room! Common room on the upper level is well stocked and has a massive DVD movie library. An in-room fridge with complimentary soda and water was a very nice touch. And breakfast was very good as well.

“Perfect Getaway”
Beth GGalena, IL
2/7/2011
My husband and I live in Galena and so don't often get to take advantage of the amazing local B&Bs, but a last minute baby-sitting offer gave us the chance. We booked Antonio's Cottage at the Cloran and absolutely loved it. Even though we never left our town, it still felt like a little get away. The cottage is next to the main house and very private. The 2 person whirlpool and see-through fireplace were divine. They even had the fireplace going before we got there. And the floors are heated! so no cold feet in the winter. Everything is well taken care of and very clean. The bed was very comfortable. The cottage has a kitchenette (mini fridge, microwave, sink, coffee maker, silverware/plates/glasses) and there is free coffee, tea, pop, water, popcorn available in the room. Breakfast was delicious and there are plenty of food/drink choices. You won't go hungry. Cheryl and Carmine love what they do and are excellent hosts. They are also known to do a lot for the community as a whole as well. If we get another opportunity, we will definitely stay here again.

“Warm And Inviting”
Karen Schairer (5 reviews)
Pewaukee, WI

The owners of the Cloran Mansion were very warm and inviting from the first step in the door to the last. They took the time to visit with all of the guests during our delicious breakfast and made all of us feel like family. The room was charming and the mini-fridge in the room with beverages was a nice touch. Our only suggestion would be to clear away a few knick-knacks so that there would be a little more room for our possessions during our stay. Other than that a pleasant stay.

“Perfect Honeymoon Getaway!”
Katlyn Schwab4/27/2010
My husband and I got married Saturday April 24th. My parents got us a 2 night stay at the Cloran Mansion. We stayed at the cottage that is seperate from the mansion. When we arrived, we felt like family. They treated us like we were their own family. They showed us around and made sure that their house was our house. They knew that we had just been married, so they gave us a bottle of champain and two flutes. The breakfasts that they served were amazing! The dinner was amazing as well. They served us in our cottage. They set everything up and took care of the mess. It was the perfect getaway after a very stressful couple of weeks before the wedding. Thank you to the owners for making our stay wonderful!

“A Warm and Romantic Place”
Leah cooper4/6/2010
I can't imagine anyone not enjoying a stay at the beautiful and friendly Cloran Mansion. The owners, Carmine and Cheryl are so inviting and really make you feel at home. All the other guests at this B&B seemed as equally pleased to be there and it was a joy eating the scrumptious family style breakfast in the lovely dining room with them. The rooms are very clean and decorated very nicely. My husband and I loved our whirlpool bathtub and the very cushy terry-cloth robes that were ares to use during our stay.
The Mansion is just a few minutes drive uphill from quaint downtown Galena. After our huge family style breakfast each morning we hiked between 4-6 miles along the well maintained river trails. After hiking and then tooling around the neighborhoods and downtown Galena it was great knowing we had such a delightful place to go back to in order to get a little rest before venturing out again for dinner. Later into the evening it was nice to come back to the Mansion's extensive DVD collection. A wonderful experience all in all.

We recommend a morning walk to and from Main St. While it is close to a mile to Main St., the area is worth the quiet and relaxing walk. Carmin offered to drive us back home if we called, but even with packages the walk back was not rough.

“Perfect for a romantic getaway!”
Heather PoppyLynn Center, IL
12/8/2008
My husband and I have stayed at the Cloran Mansion twice now, and have loved everything about our stays. The room was comfortable - the linens, plush bathrobes, fireplace, mini-fridge stocked with complimentary beverages, the TV/DVD. There is a common room with DVDs and CDs to borrow, and coffee for early risers.
Carmine and Cheryl offer several add-ons to your reservation; my husband and I had a couples' massage in the mansion. Other things you can add on include a private dinner (we didn't take advantage of this, but I'm sure it's wonderful - they're great cooks); check out their website for other ideas.
Breakfast at the Cloran is a feast. You will not leave hungry! Their breakfast offerings change all the time, but when we were there we had fabulous pumpkin pancakes one day. The potatoes are always delicious, and the eggs were made to order.
The property is a short distance from the tourist hub of downtown Galena, but that wasn't an issue for us. We liked leaving the center of town and driving back to the mansion at night. (It's a very short drive, by the way.)
Cheryl and Carmine are great hosts and really did everything they could to make us all feel welcome. We look forward to our return to the Cloran Mansion.

John and I have stayed at the Cloran for five times already. We have loved the relaxing feeling once we pull into the driveway. The inn itself is wonderful. All of the features that surround the inn are breath taking, from the huge breakfast they fix, the rooms the grounds. It is so hard to list all of the things that have made us a total return family member to the Inn. You will love your stay there. John & Joanne

“Our wedding anniversary”
Phil YMadison, WI
9/8/2008
We just returned from Galena, Illinois where we stayed at the Cloran Mansion Bed and Breakfast.
We were upgraded at no additional charge to a more spacious room with a jacuzzi tub and fireplace. We had mentioned that we were celebrating a wedding anniversary and when we returned from dinner that evening there was a complementary bottle of wine in our room, two wine flutes, and a beautiful personalized card.
The breakfasts each morning were some of the best we have ever had at a B&B!
The Cloran Mansion has central air and a lounge room with hundreds of DVD's. The hosts are friendly and helpful and the rooms are reasonably priced. The web site is very complete with pictures and details of each room.
All in all, this was one of the best B&B's we have ever stayed in with every amenity on could want.
We heartily recommend it!

This B&B is one of the best, great food, great people, and Cheryl and Carmine are excellent hosts. The grounds are wonderfully kept, I just love the Koi pond.

“Romantic Getaway”
W & L8/15/2008
Their brochure describes the Cloran Mansion as a "Romantic Getaway" and that aptly describes our experience. We live less than 20 miles from the Cloran and it is our "getaway" of choice. We stayed in Sara's Suite one year ago and were disappointed that it was not available for our anniversary this year. Instead we stayed two nights in Antonio's Cottage and found it to be every bit as nice as Sara's Suite. Carmine and Cheryl make you feel like family returning for a visit. We love the screened-in gazebo. It is next to a beautiful garden and fish pond. With the bubbling fountain and the birds singing, you would think you were in the country rather than only a couple blocks from a busy highway. We spent several hous both days just relaxing and reading in the gazebo. The breakfasts that Carmine and Cheryl serve are delicious and plentiful. The puff pancakes filled with cherries on the second day were out of this world! We will definitely return to the Cloran on our next anniversary (if not before).

“Charming, Relaxing, Wonderful”
Josh8/10/2008
Overall, this place was awesome! WE WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK!
This was our first time in a B&B, and Carmine and Cheryl couldn't have made it a more wonderful time! We stayed in the Tower Suite, which has a King size bed, private bathroom (w/ shower), and a private 2 person jacuzzi in the cupola of the mansion.
The room was excellent--the room was stocked with pop and water, we had satellite TV, there were rubber ducky's and bath salts in the jacuzzi, and a very comfortable room overall!
Service was quality too--the owners were there to greet us even though we got in a little later than standard (around 5pm), and made certain we knew where everything was. They provide a full library of DVDs and CDs, and coffee/tea/cookies are available in the library at all times!
Breakfast was delicious--the owners claim it is not 'gourmet' because they don't use crazy ingredients like at some frou-frou restaurants, but the first morning we had craisin French Toast, Hashed browns, bacon, cook-to-order eggs, and fresh juice and coffee; the second morning was delicious Apple Pancakes, sausage, cook-to-order eggs, hashed browns and juice/coffee. They serve breakfast LATE (from 9:00-10:30am), so you can sleep in if you like. It means a slightly later start to the day, but makes it MUCH more relaxing!
It's a close drive to the downtown of Galena (less than 5 minute drive), which has a lot of fun shopping and history. There's also a screened-in gazebo, koi pond, garden, and fire pit on the grounds that are perfectly enjoyable. Good times!
The only things I didn't like: The room had a lot of old pictures of bride/grooms, which in my opinion made it feel a little cluttered. Some of the wallpaper above the shower was bubbling out--probably too many steamy showers. :) And there was no temp control in the room, so we had to rely on the ceiling fan, which was fine. Those are all VERY little points in the grand scheme of things, and this place ranks a 9.5 out of 10 in my book!

“"Delightful Experience"”
Larry Ewing8/8/2008
On the spur of the moment, I decided to whisk my wife away for a romantic weekend at a Bed & Breakfast. Not having invested any research, I randomly opted for the Cloran Mansion and hoped for the best. Well we both just loved our stay! Our hosts Cheryl and Carmen are great people, and treated us like family. We stayed in the Sara Suite and were just blown away by the atmosphere and elegance. We will most certainly visit again.

“You won't be dissapointed”
Teresa & Scott5/5/2008
My boyfriend and I stayed there for my birthday celebration.
Carmine and Cheryl are wonderful hosts. I must say that we
have found our favorite place and we will be back many times!
The name really does apply, it’s a Mansion. We were upgraded
no charge to a nicer room but all rooms are great! The rooms
are decorated beautifully and the bathrooms have a large two
person whirlpool, completed with bath salts and soft, plush
robes. There is also a mini-refrigerator with complimentary
water and soda and a gas fireplace. TV with satellite dish
and DVD player. The main living area has a large DVD library,
along with coffee maker, popcorn, homemade cookies, board
games and a laptop with Internet access.
The breakfast was excellent, no need for lunch after that!
We had French toast that was to die for…..eggs made to order,
ham, and the potatoes were delicious. Cheryl and Carmine are
excellent cooks. All served in a beautiful dining room, with
fine china, and linens. The grounds are well cared for, there
is a beautiful gazebo and a pond with fish. You can also make
a fire in the firepit. Overall a very romantic weekend; I am
already recommending this B & B to my friends.

“A Magical Weekend at Cloran Mansion”
Michelle3/25/2008
Cloran Mansion is a majestic bed and breakfast hosted by two wonderful, friendly people. My husband and I spent the weekend in Sara's Suite, which was lavishly decorated but still cozy, with a fireplace and whirlpool. Carmine and Cheryl serve a first-rate breakfast--we never had room for lunch during our stay! C & C's attention to detail and extra special touches made our stay truly magical. We will be back!

Lovely B & B located just about 1/2 mile out of town. A pleasant walk down a hill into the main shopping area of Galena. Wonderful breakfast with eggs made to order and all the trimmings one could imagine. The owners are charming and very hospitable. Nice and very clean rooms with a sitting room for anyone to use and lots of videos to borrow.Would definitely stay again.

“First Time Fans!”
Marizel and San12/3/2007
My boyfriend and I are first timers at a bed and breakfast and are so glad we decided to stay at Cloran mansion.
We came to celebrate our 30th birthdays this November and were just absolutely impressed with the care we received from Carmine and Cheryl.
They were so attentive and gave us the privacy we were looking for. They had a delicious birthday cake and balloonm waiting for us when we arrived and
treated us like family. We were so touched by their story and how well they work together. It was a beautiful, romantic and memorable event and we would love to come back
in the summer to see them again.

“The perfect getaway!”
G & R10/29/2007
My husband & I just spent our 2nd October weekend at the Cloran Mansion Bed & Breakfast in Galena. We have totally loved the time we spent there, and are looking forward to another visit next October. The warmth and friendliness of the Innkeepers, Carmine & Cheryl, is the real deal, and nobody leaves as strangers. We stay in Antonio's Cottage, a handicapped-accessible, child and pet friendly addition to the B & B, and it is the coziest! The hearty breakfasts are to die for! And we enjoy visiting with the other guests, who come from all over to enjoy the beauty of Galena in the Fall as well as the hospitality of the Cloran Mansion.

“You Won't Be Disappointed”
Sonia & Karl10/17/2007
My husband & I went to the Cloran Mansion for our one-year anniversary. There was a chocolate cake (my favorite), balloon, and card waitiing on our bed when we arrived. It was a wonderful and thoughtful surprise. John's Room was lovely and so were the grounds. Cheryl & Carmine were wonderful hosts, so hospitable. They even let us park our motorcycle in their private garage so it wouldn't get wet overnight. Overall, a wonderful experience. We will definitely return!

“Don't miss out of this”
Jonna Boelke9/24/2007
This was by far one of the best inns I Have ever stayed at.
The hosts were terrific and the guests were great.
The property has so much to offer you will hate to leave and
the rooms are to die for. I have stayed in other inns but
this was by far the best. Don't miss out on the pond or
the firepit.

“Cloran Mansion is definitely #1!”
Bill & Linda8/13/2007
Cloran Mansion was the fifth B & B we have stayed in this
summer. It is definitely #1 in our book. If you want to be
pampered, this is the place to go. Carmine and Cheryl are
gracious hosts and devoted to making their guests' stay a
wonderful experience. Sara's Suite is beautiful and so
comfortable. It was our anniversary, and we were greeted with
roses, a balloon, card and a delicious cake. The gazebo and
fish pond are delightful as well as the flower gardens. The
breakfasts are bountiful and beautifully presented. We were
surprised how many of the guests at breakfast were there for
repeat visits. We only live about 15 miles from the Cloran
Mansion but we will definitely go back the next time we want
to get away for a few days.
