Circa 1876. The Cliffside Inn was built as a grand Newport, Rhode Island summer house by the governor of Maryland in the style of a Second Empire Victorian. Poised averlooking the Atlantic Ocean, this luxury inn features a mansard roof and many bay windows. Guest rooms and suites boast Victorian furnishings and fireplaces. Some feature marble baths and many have double whirlpool tubs. After a satisfying breakfast stroll along the popular Cliff Walk, located one block from the inn.

One of Cliffside's most popular rooms, Beatrice's Room is a sun-filled, junior suite with 2 large bay window alcoves. This is the room Beatrice Turner lived and painted in and some of her special touches remain today -- 3 of the doors have floral panels painted by her. The bedroom features a grand, antique-carved walnut Queen bed and matching chest of drawers vanity, hardwood floors and oriental rug, black marble wood-burning fireplace, plus a bay window with built-in Victorian window seating and table. The bathing salon is elegantly detailed with carrera marble and raised wood paneling. It features a 2-person whirlpool tub dramatically set in the large bay window alcove. It also has a separate, 2-person marble shower and pedestal sink. Signature in-room spa treatment may be added. Located on the second floor of the Cliffside Manor House, bay windows face southeast. Two room layout: Bedroom with large bay window sitting area (242sf), and bathing salon with whirlpool and double shower (113sf). Total square footage 355.

The living room, study, and bedroom all have their own fireplaces and media centers. Fifteen foot cathedral ceilings and skylights extend throughout as well. Two sets of French doors lead to the living room with its roll arm sofa, cocktail table, upholstered armchairs, oriental rug and wood burning fireplace. The bathing salon has 2-person whirlpool, separate shower, and skylight. The regal study features a mahogany library with built-in black granite, gas fireplace and a love seat with 2 armchairs and cocktail table. Outside, the southwest-facing deck has an umbrella, table and chairs. An iPod-enabled sound system with speakers and room controls throughout. Signature in-room spa service may be added. The Inn's largest bedroom features a mammoth 4-poster King bed, sitting area with Victorian fainting couch, wingback chair and wood-burning fireplace. In addition to rich cherry paneling, fireplace and 2-person whirlpool, the bathing salon has a one-of-a-kind, antique Victorian birdcage shower surrounded in green marble. Thoroughly modern by today's spa standards, you are surrounded head-to-toe by 4 horseshoe-shaped rows of nozzles -- about 250 in all. Overhead, a rain shower. A modern indulgence from a century ago!
