Centerville is a small city in Iowa. It began as a mining town that attracted many European immigrants. Although the mining industry has long been gone, there are still many sites in Centerville that would serve to remind both the locals and visitors of its past glory. The city has a large population of families of European descent, particularly Italians, Albanians and Croatians. Annually, the city celebrates the Croatian Fest, which is held every July. This is done to celebrate the rich Croatian heritage that Centerville has. During the festivities Croatian cuisine is served in many homes and even in some Centerville bed and breakfast inns. Another popular festival that manages to draw throngs of visitors from different parts of Iowa and the county is Pancake Day.
