Circa 1864. A neighborhood landmark, this Second Empire-style mansion with a mansard roof is furnished with European antiques and a French country decor. Sip complimentary sherry or port by the fire in one of the common rooms. Guest bedrooms and suites are named after well-known poets and most feature whirlpool tubs, fireplaces and private entrances as well as a variety of amenities. In addition to the Main House and Carriage House rooms, a garden cottage and beach studio are also available. The inn is famous for Jurgen's homemade breakfasts that combine classic American with German bounty. Hospitality is abundant, offering bike storage, a beverage and ironing station, guest office with Internet access and much more. Soak in the spa, read on a secluded patio or relax in the garden.

Innkeeper Note

European Charme and luxury amenities make this Guesthouse & Spa an escape out of the ordinary. We are quietly located in the center of Provincetown. The patios at the Carpe Diem are a green oasis far away from all the excitement of Commercial Street. Our Namaste Spa, featuring Massage Services, Finnish Sauna, Provincetown’s largest Steam Room and Hotspring Hydrojet Hot Tub, offers great relaxation year-round from 10 AM to 9 PM. Jurgen's homemade German-style breakfast is famous. The daily Wine & Cheese hour is a great way to connect with fellow guests. The common rooms are a wonderful place to relax, read a good book, meet people or chat with new friends. Video & DVD library, complimentary sherry and port and a 24-hour coffee & tea station are available for your comfort as well as a guest office & WIFI for those that need to stay connected to the "real" world. Carpe Diem - a magical place on the edge of the continent!

A few years ago, i stayed at Carpe Diem - maybe by accident i think - and i knew i would never willfully stay at another guest house in Ptown. The 3 men who tend to the house run it beautifully. They treat you as though you were old friends - hugs, help, wonderful breakfast, reservations, you name it. The spa is a great treat. The breakfasts are without equal in my experience in guest houses. They lay out a fine spread, make a special hot dish for the morning, and even still will make eggs or omelets at your request. Coffee and tea are available all day, and i don't mean burnt nasty stuff. A nice coffee maker is at your disposal. I have stayed in various rooms, and they are all quite comfortable. Some of the rooms have bathrooms that are on the small side and could use a little updating, but most are nice enough. There is a main house and, across a patio, a separate house. I personally like staying in the main house since it's more sociable, but if you prefer more quiet, then the secondary house might suit you.
