Never Again!

I read plenty of reviews before booking a room with Cardiff-by-the-Sea Lodge and figured I’d see for myself. Both the goods and the bads were right on. Access to the beach was awesome but that's almost the only good. First off the owner’s son checked us in and boy what a negative attitude he displayed and I felt there may have been a little racism there too. Next, the room’s motif was from a different era and needed to be renovated badly. The room we stayed in was located just above a nightclub and there was bar noise and drunks shouting and carrying on late into the night. Which leads me into the view from the room, if call looking at the roof of the nightclub a view, you may be happy with this room. The so called breakfast was absolutely insulting and my wife and I elected to eat elsewhere. To be honest I’ve seen better spreads at Holiday Inn and Cardiff-by-the-Sea Lodge is advertised as a bed and breakfast. Our stay at Cardiff-by-the-Sea Lodge was an absolute waste of money, had I known what I know today I would have stayed at another hotel. Oh, my likes were the fireplace in the room, very cool, the roof top garden “but it was always rented out for parties” so no enjoyment there, and it is within walking distance to the Beach House restaurant.

A Refreshing & Romantic Place!

Cardiff-By-The-Sea Lodge is a place to go for those who need to "exhale" and breathe fresh air. It is true ecologically but most of all spiritually. My wife and I had a wonderful time together communing with one another and most of all with the Lord Jesus Christ. The reception given to us by Mr. James S and Jose were excellent. We'll surely come back to CBTSL! Blessings to you and your refreshing place.

Wonderful surprise!

I was taken here by my husband to celebrate the completion of 7 years of homeschooling. What a great place for relaxation, recuperation, and romance! We were greeted by friendly staff. We enjoyed the beautiful roof top garden area and our whimsical paradise room. Loved our stay...hope to come again!

romantic garden spot

Each room had individual style and theme decor. Interesting architecture. Small complex interspersed with beautiful flowers and plants. The deck on top of the inn has a fireplace, jacuzzi under the starry (hopefully!) Southern California nights. Convenient underground parking. Walking distance from restaurants, markets and the beach.

Great Place

My wife and I stayed here to celebrate our 20th anniversary and it was a great pick. Cardiff is a tiny, blink-and-you'll-miss-it, town just south of Encinitas and just north of Solana Beach. The lodge is a short walk to the beach, with access through the state park. Each room at the Cardiff Lodge is themed. Before we chose the Southwest Room, we were shown the Roosevelt Room (a classy, well-furnished room), the Reflection Room (mirrors everywhere and a round bed), and The Pine Room (completely decked out in rustic pine). We settled on the Southwest Room for a nicer view of the Pacific, a 2 person jacuzzi tub, and a fireplace. The room was comfortable and private. Opening the shutters and windows allowed for a fresh ocean breeze to flow in. The landscaping throughout the property is beautiful and peaceful. It's in an English garden style with lots of plants overflowing from the planters at varying heights. Everything is well-taken care of. The rooftop garden is a great getaway where my wife and I each spent an hour in the sun reading our bibles. Later, after dinner, we returned to the rooftop to sit by the firepit and relax some more. As a bed and breakfast, the bed part is great. The breakfast side was nothing out of the ordinary. Very standard oatmeal packets and hot water could be improved with an oatmeal bar - fresh cooked with lots of condiment choices would be a nice touch. All-in-all, a wonderful getaway on the coast. I would definitely stay again.

Great Get-away

My wife and I recently spent two relaxing days and nights at Cardiff-by-the-Sea Lodge to celebrate our 36th anniversary. The location is great (only a block from the ocean), the views from the rooftop deck are spectacular, and there are a number of great little local restaurants nearby. We loved the quiet and unhurried pace of the Inn and of the community. Highly recommend it.
