Brewster Inn

My sister Kathy, her husband Gary, my boyfriend Tom and I stayed the night at The Brewster Inn. We arrived earlier than anticipated and sat around the backyard pond that was under construction, and watched two toads/frogs hoping around. I was fascinated by the history of the Inn and that the owners have been able to maintain it in it's former glory. I was very jealous of the closet space in the bedroom I occupied. My old house does not have closets that big. :) The rooms were a step back in time with the furniture and furnishings. If you like old houses this the place to stay. The beds were very comfortable; after being on the motorcycles all day it was great to sleep in in a very comfortable bed. The food at breakfast was excellent. If you are touring around on the motorcycle/car do put this place on your must stay stop. The gardens are lovely and the entire place is so peaceful. The owners are fantastic, we really enjoyed ourselves. Hopefully, we will return someday, my sister never did see her moose. :). The living room has couches that you just want to curl up with a book, a glass of wine and read to your hearts content. A great location for a get away weekend.:)

A gem

The Brewster Inn is a hidden gem. Mark and Tina are attentive and welcoming hosts. They go out of their way to make sure their guests are comfortable with all details attended to. We especially liked the way they introduced us to the history of the Inn and the town of Dexter. We had a great walk along the trail and enjoyed the local diner. And when we had car problems Mark went above and beyond to make sure we got help and were on our way safely. We look forward to returning and exploring the area in other seasons. Thanks.

Romantic Fireplace!

In this day and age, it's difficult to find a safe fireplace. We totally enjoyed relaxing in front of the fireplace. I was reminded of my visit to Campobello, the historic feel was of the same era, but here we got to spend the night. Keep up the English / New England hospitality! Mark and Judith have remained in our thoughts, since we left the Inn.

Our stay at the Brewster Inn

My husband and I have stayed at the Brewster Inn before, so it was an easy choice when I was looking for a place to spend a couple days with my daughter. Actually this was the second time I've come to the Brewster Inn with a daughter. We celebrate passage into the teen years with a Mother/Daughter Retreat. This was such an excellent place to do that because the rooms are beautiful and the atmosphere is relaxed. We had plenty of room to do our activities and loved the special "Hot Chocolate" treat we got in the evening. We also loved the breakfast and kind words from our hosts. We will definitely be back!

European comfort, New England charm

Earlier this week, I stayed in the Game Room in the Brewster Inn. This place is simply astounding. The rooms here are almost like an adventure unto themselves. They reflect generous amount of American history and New England charm, yet with modern amenities and an exquisitely European attention to detail. Mark the innkeeper has been very helpful and friendly. This was a quick trip for me, but I want to return, and their outstanding room value is making it possible for me to return soon! I made reservations for my return trip on the way out the door, I am really looking forward to coming back.

InnSide Tip - Talk to Mark or Judith beforehand
All of their rooms are delightfully different. If you have anything that you want, need, or expect out of your room, be sure to talk to Mark or Judith beforehand so they can best accommodate your stay. I did, I was traveling on business and dropped Mark an e-mail detailing what I would need to do once I was there. His input helped turn an ordinary stay in to a phenomenal one.

What a memorable experience

The hosts were incredible nice and made us feel very welcome, even offering to upgrade our room for free as soon as we arrived! The house is beautiful and great to explore. The rooms were spacious, clean and very comfortable. The price was also very affordable. I would definitely recommend staying here.

Exceeded Our Expectations

Our family spent a week at the Brewster Inn and couldn't say enough good things about the Inn and Innkeepers. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. The food was delicious and a great variety to suit everyone's tastes. The common areas were comfortable and beckoned you to sit, visit, relax whether it was in the lovely living room, on the wonderful screened in porch or on one of the many benches scattered throughout the grounds and gardens. The gardens are beautiful, everywhere you look there's some new gem to behold. The innkeepers were very gracious and gave us lots of good information about the local area and ideas for activities. By the time we left, it felt like leaving home and friends. We're recommending the Brewster Inn to all our family and friends. We look forward to return trips in the years to come.

Charm, History & Beauty

The Brewster Inn is a magnificent gem that I was so lucky to have found. It is full of charm, history and beauty. You can't help but fall in love and never want to go home. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The robes are heavenly. Breakfast is always satisfying and tasty with a large variety to choose from. The Caramel French Toast a friend of the owners made was decadent and delicious. The gardens and lawn are so nice to stroll through. The porch/patio areas invite you to sit and relax as does the wonderful furniture in the living room. Visit once and you'll be sure to visit for years to come. I know I certainly will.

Treasured Gem- Brewster Inn

The Inn is beautiful, full of charm and history. The owners are wonderful, accomodating, and by time you leave you feel as if you're leaving old friends. Can't wait to visit this summer and see the grounds in full bloom and explore more of the Inn. I'd encourage everyone to stay at the Brewster Inn. Stay once and you're guaranteed to be repeat visitors. The owners ensure you have everything you need, or want. The pictures from the weddings that have been held at the Inn make me yearn to get married all over again and I'm looking forward to my next wedding being there.

Celebration of life

My wife and I went to Dexter to attend a celebration of life for a dear friend of ours . Her husband had chosen the Brewster Inn to hold this celebration and had also had a room held for my wife and I to stay in . This was the first time we had ever attended a celebration of life and also to stay at a bed & breakfast. We enjoyed both. The celebration was a great send off for our dear friend and the Inn was a perfect place to hold it . We stayed overnight in the honeymoon suite and found it warm and cozy. Mark and his wife were perfect attendants, there to help but not under foot. We are also hoping to maybe go back to the Inn this winter to snowmobile as the trail almost runs right next to the Inn and the area just looks inviting . This was a great place to stay and I would and will tell my friends about it. Thank you Mark and Judith. Kim & Cindy Wiles Kingston N.H.

11 Days of Central Maine Inn with character!

My wife and I from the UK decided on a 2-week Flydrive "Fall Leaves" trip to Maine to coincide with my retirement. Moving between hotels on a daily basis lost its appeal. I found the "Dexter Inn" on line and realised it was in easy travel distance of both the coast and mountains. The room charges were also very reasonable compared to major hotels. We stayed for 11 nights! Mark and Judith are perfect hosts and gave us guidance on destinations. We just had one of the most perfect vacations ever. Thanks to both of you and ALL the friendly people in both Dexter and Maine itself. Stuart & Marlene.

1st B&B VISIT

10/12/09 Dear Judith and Mark We arrived at the Brewster Inn at 3pm on Thursday October 1st Jan’s birthday. We were enthusiastically greeted by Mark and Judith. It was our very first visit to a Bread and Breakfast and was placed in the Hideaway Room. It was very helpful to be given a B&B guidebook which gave us the history of the Brewster Inn and the names of the restaurants for lunch and dinner. Mark also gave us a tour of the Inn. We the went out to see in my aunt was at home (in Dexter). We went out to dinner. It was such a wonderful feeling being with Bill on our first vacation in three years. The room featured a great futon which had a lovely and comfy blue Quilt. We cuddled in the comforter and I watched TV and Bill read. It was a pleasant experience getting into a most comfortable bed and able to sleep until after 7a.m. (Usually) Bill is up and on the 6am bus). We were pleasantly surprised to arrive in the dining room with a bountiful buffet which included English muffins, bagels, French toast, oatmeal, fruit and tea and coffee. After breakfast Mark gave us excellent directions to Moosehead Lake Greenville, Me. He also recommended some places to shop at and to look for advice from the Visitor Center who was gracious and recommended a car ride route. We did some shopping in the local stores and the rode around in the area tacking some nice photos (one we send to the local paper for publications). On the way home we got sandwiches at subway and stopped to visit my wife’s aunt who just celebrated her 88th birthday. I would highly recommend a stay at the Brewster Inn. Mark and Judith showed us their hospitality with a wonderful stay. We will definitely recommend the Brewster Inn to our friend and family We look forward to a return visit next year. Romantic and Enchanting

What a slice of heaven in the middle of Maine where you can just relax and unwind or you can be at the coast or the lakes and mountains in no time at all. We loved our very large and private honeymoon suite. The two-person whirlpool tub was a most inviting feature at the end of a long day of exploring. The Brewster Inn is full of American history. We particularly loved the preservation of the Inn by our most gracious Innkeepers, Mark and Judith. It is awesome to know that you are staying where President Harry Truman once stayed!! Their very interesting and unique story about their purchase of the Inn was so touching. Mark and Judith seem to ancipate your every need and go beyond any expectations you may have. We hope to return to the Inn next year. It will feel like we are "coming home." The service and accommodations were excellent, the location is perfect for exploring all of Maine and the friendship we made with Mark and Judith will be treasured.

Perfect Place for a Weekend Away!

My husband and I were fortunate enough to enjoy the quaint allure of the Brewster Inn a couple of weeks ago. My roommate from college had her wedding on the grounds (beautifully magical!) and all of our closest friends from school stayed at the inn. It was the perfect place for a long-awaited reunion. Mark and Judith, the innkeepers, were excellent hosts. Breakfast was tasty and filling, and the history off the inn alone was worth the visit. We would highly recommend a stay at the Brewster Inn. The rooms are cozy and charming, and the grounds of the inn are lovely. A visit to Maine at any time during the year is a treat, and the Brewster Inn is the perfect place to experience it.

Amazingly Fun and Romantic Weekend!

We had such a lovely time at the Brewster Inn! The owners (Mark and Judith)were both fun and accomodating and provided us with a wonderful atmosphere for our part reunion part wedding celebration weekend. We stayed in the Game Room which provided a lovely space for us to gather with friends between our scheduled events of the weekend. The room also gave my husband and I plenty of space to cozy up at nights end. The history is abundant at the Brewster Inn as well and we can't wait to go again and learn more!

Lovely Stay

The Brewster Inn was an old governor's home with lot of character that has been converted to a bed and breakfast. I stayed at the smallest room on the property, the Strawberry, but it was very comfortable and had everything I needed. The proprietors, Mark and Judith are very warm and hospitable, so much so that I felt like we were old friends by the time I left!

unplanned delight!

We were off on our first kid-free vacation in 14 years, we had no reservations and were pleasantly surprised with the Brewster Inn. My husband is not a big fan of B&B's but agreed to stay at my request. We had a marvelous time, the hosts were gracious and the inn was beautiful, he wants to go back! Breakfast and our walk through the gardens were a great start to our day. We got well rested and enjoyed our time and the history of the place.

a good place to stay, with very friendly hosts. One comment: breakfast should be organised a bit better. The room is too full with tables and ingredients are not always straight away available. For the rest: nothing less than compliments.

Picture Perfect Wedding

While searching the internet in March 2009, our daughter found the Brewster Inn in Dexter, Maine and began touring the website. She had opted for a GARDEN THEME in the summer months with a cello and violinist playing the music among the flowers and gardens. She didn't want the guests to have to drive to another reception location but wanted a place where they could go from their seats into the reception under a large tent with tables decorated in linens and fresh roses. We found this setting with the Brewster Inn in Dexter. To make the wedding picture perfect, the innkeeper, Mark, asked us if she would like to be brought to the inn by Horse and carriage. That was the other piece that gave us the perfect "Storybook" wedding for our daughter. Mark and Judith gave us several names of local talent and businesses that gave us exceptional service and prices for the wedding. The rooms were clean and quaint with that historical decor to them. The beds were comfortable. The food was delicious. All of the out of town guests were able to stay at the inn for very reasonable prices and the innkeepers were always there with a helping hand and a friendly smile. They opened up their parlor and their dining room for the rehearsal dinner and party the night before the wedding and everyone had a wonderful stay. If you desire a picturesque inn, in the heart of Maine, with wonderful hosts and reasonable costs, I would highly recommend this inn. Your guests will be talking about it for many years to come and it will be a wedding that you only find in storybooks. Thank you Judith and Mark! 8-26-2009 Moe and Sherrie

Brewster Inn- Amazing Stay

The Brewster Inn at Dexter was amazing, every aspect of our experience was excellent. Mark and Judith are remarkable in their dedication and service to the local community. Their greeting was warm and friendly- as if old friends. The Inn was clean, excellent home cooked breakfast with remarkable hospitality above and beyond anything we've ever experienced ( and we travel often ). They are professional and very comforting- an experience you must not miss in Dexter. Thank you Mark and Judith

Best Night's Stay on Earth

Traveling is always tiring and inconvenient. However our 4 night stay at the Brewster Inn was exactly the opposite. Never before have we felt so at home away from home. Everything we needed was just a request away. We wanted a rhubard pie so the innkeeper went to Bangor and got us one. The fresh coffer along with good breakfast satisfied us in the morning. The quietness of the place allowed for a wonderful good nights sleep. We will definitely come back our next trip to Maine like coming home again!!

Hi Tim. Thank you for taking the time to write your review. I was headed to Bangor anyway so it was no trouble at all to head over to the bakery and get the pie. It was easy to do. I’m glad that everything was to your liking. I always try to give the homely experience here at the Brewster Inn. See you again!

Christmas 2014 at the Brewster Inn

Being met at the door by the Innkeeper, Mark after a long day of travel was very comforting. There is nothing worse than standing around waiting for service when you are tired. We were ushered to our room after a timely check-in and were fortunate enough to be in “The Game Room”. It has tons of room yet is cozy and comfortable. Lots of hot water with comfy towels and robes that are great for curling up in front of the fireplace. The bed had just the right amount of firmness for our bad backs and the duel control electric blanket was a warm surprise on the cold evenings. The room was super clean and well decorated. We added our own Christmas touches which made it feel even more like home. The room had the feel of a 1900’s house with all the modern conveniences: flat screen television and Wi-Fi that worked without any problem. From the moment we entered Brewster Inn, we felt spoiled. A hot dish breakfast was available every day and Mark was flexible with our schedule which was great. The main sitting room was all-aglow with Christmas. The tree smelled amazing and we enjoyed an entire evening with a bowl of popcorn sitting in front of the fireplace, enjoying the tree and chatting away as the wind howled outside. Mark was the perfect host. His English humor had us in stitches and we loved hearing about his “Maine” experiences. He was ALWAYS available and accommodating. We enjoyed his company very much. Highlights: attention to detail was amazing. If we were out past 5:00 pm, he would turn on the heat for us so that when we came in from the cold, our room would be toasty. Loved the warm bed and also the book he left for us with all the information about the history of the house, information about the area and his own personal story. I think we read it cover to cover. Breakfasts were wonderful and plentiful. His customer service is exceptional. We really didn’t want to leave!

Thank you for the kind words Maria. I’m very pleased you all enjoyed your stay here at the Brewster Inn. Maybe it’s the Englishness in me but I feel very strongly it’s my duty and all part of the customer service experience for me to carry guest bags to their room. Just feels like the right thing to do. All the guest rooms get checked by me before guests arrive, just to make sure that everything is just right. It doesn’t take more than a few mins to do and you know then that your guests will be very happy. I look forward to seeing you in the summer and you’ll be able to head back to Vittles for some great food

Best Kept Secret in Maine!

My husband and I stayed at The Brewster Inn for five nights in June 2013. We had a wonderful experience! Mark, the resident owner and Innkeeper, made sure we had a perfect stay while we were there. He went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed during our stay. The room was impeccably clean, quiet, and incredibly comfortable due to the plush bedding and pillows. The gardens are quite lovely for strolling or sitting and relaxing or reading a book. Mark prepares a different gourmet breakfast each morning. Everything was delicious! The dining room is spacious and guests are able to mix and mingle while they enjoy the culinary offerings. The living room is beautifully decorated with lovely furnishings that are comfortable for guests to sit and relax or talk to each other. The location is excellent for seeing all of the points of interest. Mark is a delightful, funny, and compassionate innkeeper. His hospitality is amazing! We had a wonderful stay.

It was great to have you here for 5 nights. I know you got to do a lot of different things during your vacation here at the Brewster Inn. The beds continue every week to get great comments on the quality of my guests sleep experience, something that pleases me greatly. The gardens are further developed still more this summer since your stay as well. Being 2.5acres of grounds, there's plenty to enjoy. Thank you for staying and I hope to see you again in the future.

A Delight

The Brewster Inn in Dexter, Maine, is a delightful gem of a B & B. The proprietor, Mark, was very accommodating and helpful. My mother, daughter and I made the long trip from Franconia, New Hampshire, to Dexter in order to take a moose safari. Since we planned to arrive in the afternoon, about an hour before our safari, Mark made sure we were checked in, coordinated with our guide, he gave us directions to our guide's business, and made sure that we were able to find a good place to eat when we were finished with the safari and back in Dexter (which was about 8pm and we wouldn't have had a clue where to begin finding a place for dinner at that hour). The day was somewhat rushed but Mark made everything a lot easier for us. Breakfast consisted of a hot egg dish, fruit, breads and cereal, with tea and coffee available about an hour before breakfast (thank you Mark!!). Our rooms were comfortable, well-appointed and clean. The inn offers a handicapped accessible entrance and room (which I mention because it's the first I've ever seen in a B & B, and was one of the two we booked for the night). We had a lovely stay, although it was too short. We would highly recommend The Brewster Inn.

Management Response
Here in small town Maine I think it’s always good to make sure guests have all the info they need whilst they are here, esp if doing an outdoors tour like moose, birds or wildlife or maybe going white water rafting so that they know where things are in the evening when they are (for example) looking for dinner. It isn't 24/7 open all hours around here and some really good places close at times some people might call "early" so it’s good for my guests to have that good useful info before they head out. If there's something they need while they are out exploring, i always like them to know they can just give me a call on the phone so I can help them whenever and where ever they may be. I hope to see you all again in the future so you can spend more time here next time

Fantastic B & B

This B & B is such a Treasure and full of History. We spent the Christmas Holiday at The Brewster Inn and had booked the Truman Room . Everything exceeded our Expectations and we could not have thought of anything else that would have improved our Stay . We will be sure to come back for another Visit and want to commend Innkeeper Mark Stephens for making everybody feel at Home while being away from Home . To anybody who is looking for an authentic historic clean friendly and beautifully restored B & B this is the Place to visit , you will not be disappointed !

This place is definitely romantic!

When I made a reservation at the Brewster Inn, i did it because the inn looked lovely from the pictures and because of the many positive reviews. My husband and I travel to New England every couple of years to enjoy the snow and wander around Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire. When I found this place, my husband questioned why on earth we would want to go up to Dexter where there was little to do in the winter. I told him I liked the inn pictures and he rolled his eyes. That got me a little worried, but when we arrived, our worries were put to rest. Mark has done an incredible job of refurbishing this inn. You can tell that there has been so much work done. For example, the living room. The painting detail is amazing and his taste is quite lovely. He continues to have things done and seems like he is always working on improving. Our room was the game room, and I highly recommend it. We looked at the other rooms and though all are lovely, ours was the biggest and the most spectacular. It is all covered in wood paneling, including a complex ceiling done in stunning wood design. The huge kind bed was comfortable and he had feather pillows, which we love. There were three luggage racks and lots of places to put things. The fireplace was a wonderful touch. Mark is more than willing to give help when needed. If you ask a question, be ready for a rather lengthy response - brevity is not his strong suit, but he is a gracious and caring host and we will definitely return to this lovely in. We did very little but drive around and look at the lakes and read and knit and cuddle, but other will find much to do during their days if pure relaxation is not your goal.

Thank you for coming all the way from the west coast. It was great having you here and enjoying the Game room. At 650sqft it really is an incredible room and very comfy for all my guests with king bed, great seating area, fireplace and lots of good amenities Whether you want to relax with your partner or be outdoors doing activities, the Brewster Inn is a great place to be

Perfection

My husband and I decided at the very last minute to take off for an overnight get away and were fortunate enough to come across the Brewster Inn’s website. Not only did they have a very nice looking suite available, it was at a very reasonable price! After looking at the reviews and the website we decided to book the Honeymoon Suite, for the very next night. Mark, the Innkeeper, called us to confirm our reservation within about 20 minutes of booking it online. When we arrived we were greeted warmly by Mark and felt very welcome immediately in our beautiful surroundings. The pictures on the website are all very beautiful, and we were pleasantly surprised to see it in real life - the photos cannot capture the history, the beauty and the love that obviously went into the beautiful mansion’s restoration and continued maintenance. The Inn’s foyer and living room are incredible, with beautiful attention to detail. Gorgeous hardwood floors, fireplace, large windows (with window seats) - lovely antiques and knick knacks in glass fronted cabinets, even a piano, not to mention furniture that makes you want to curl up with a good book! Very warm and inviting. The Honeymoon Suite is perfection, in a word. Not only is it private and quiet, it is beautifully furnished with everything you may want or need, it is spotlessly clean, from floor to ceiling. The bath is wonderful, a giant two person Jacuzzi with a separate shower, all surrounded in wood paneling, floors and ceiling. There are wonderful whimsical statues, urns and bowls on all of the beautiful built in bookcases lining the walls, with a great collection of books and a terrific sofa set in front of a gas fireplace - oh and more window seats! The bed and pillows are so soft and comfortable, we slept like rocks and didn’t want to go home! The breakfast we had was wonderful, and so filling we didn’t need lunch. I can’t thank you enough for a great stay, Mark. We will be back, and we will recommend your place to all of our friends.

I have a new reservation system on the way that should be ready in May. I'm excited about it as its going to open a lot more opportunities for my guests to add more to their stay. I'm looking forward to seeing it in action before later on this year; my new website will also be ready and online. I'm glad you enjoyed your time here. I can pretty much guarantee all my guests an incredible night’s sleep with my excellent pillows and very comfortable beds. The honeymoon suite is indeed an impressive room, big and private, large whirlpool, fireplace, big seating area. Real comfort at its best. Looking forward to seeing you again in the future

The Brewster Inn in Dexter, Maine

Serendipity!

Although Dexter is not a touristic attraction in itself, the place is very well situated for all kind of outdoor activities nearby. The real goal is the Brewster Inn. Most tastefully decorated with respect for the historic aspects. Mark, the owner, was very helpful and is quite an interesting person. We felt very welcome, and would definitively revisit whenever touring New England again!

A great place to stay

We were invited there for wedding not far from Dexter, and found The Brewster. What a find! It doesn't get any better than this. The Inn is beautiful and full of history. Comfort and beauty surround you everywhere. I spoke to Mark a couple times before we arrived, and left there with him being my newest friend. Very top notch gentleman. Does everything in hos power to make things better for you. Our first stay, and w are going back next summer or fall.

Host is truly gifted !

Our stay at the Brewster Inn was fantastic! Mark greeted us with warmth and sincere generosity. He made us feel completely at home and he shared his knowledge about the area with great suggestions and sites to see. Mark has devoted himself to the restoration of this wonderful historic gem. The decor is very clever and beautifully done. We stayed in the Honeymoon suite and the Game room. Both were spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The gardens were just gorgeous too! Breakfast was just amazing. Thank you to Mark for his hard work at breathing life into this wonderful historic home. After staying at the Brewster, I feel like I have a friend to visit in Maine. I will definitely return again in the future.

Thank you Marisa. It was great having you here for your 2 night stay. I appreciate your comments on the cleanliness in the Brewster Inn. It’s something that I like a lot and I believe helps to show a pride in your property. The Honeymoon Suite and Game room are incredible guest rooms. Original wood panels, fireplaces and a lot of comfort. My gardens are in the 6th year of a redevelopment and there’s more planned yet again to improve them still further next year. I look forward to seeing you all again in the future. The Brewster Inn is a great place to base yourself for a multi night stay on your Maine vacation as its central to everything and everywhere

Best B&B in Maine

We took a chance with "The Brewster Inn" for the website looked fabulous. The Inn exceeded our expectations. The Host was fabulous and could not be more accommodating. The rooms were clean and comfortable, the gardens were beautiful and the décor and history of the inn was historic with plenty of artifacts to review. We will be back next year without a doubt. The Inn is in a perfect location to restaurants and attractions. Again the best B&B in Maine.

Comforting place to be

We loved the Brewster so much, we could just move in. Rooms are beautiful and there is a variety to meet all needs. Loved the 'Hideaway Room' - lots of space. Living Room and sun porch are great places to read and enjoy the beautiful gardens. Very old British traditions and lots of history to review. Can feel the ambiance of those who lived there in earlier years. Mark is a terrific host and has studied and knows the area well. Great recommendations for food and touring around. Definitely a do-over.

Beautiful Inn and great host

Mr. Stephens kindly accepted my family into his inn, this past fall. (I am late writing this review.) We stayed in two different rooms over the four nights we stayed. He helped us plan out our spur of the moment adventure in Maine. And when our stay with him was over, he helped us find our next stay as we began our decent down the coast. The Brewster in is is a beautiful building rich with culture and artifacts inside. My boy enjoyed the flower garden out back, planning it out for a rebuild in minecraft. The breakfast casserole was perfect. I hope that one day we will make it back to stay again at the inn. I believe it would be honest for me to say that the Brewster Inn was the nicest place we stayed throughout our two week, 9 state, adventure.

InnSide Tip -
This Inn may seem like it is out of the way. But if you are new to Maine, you will find that it is centrally located to many attractions throughout the state. It was a drive, but we made to and from Quoddy Head state park. Moxie falls, and acadia national park. (One destination each day)

The Best of the Best!

I contacted The Brewster Inn on a very late and snowy night. Mark immediately returned my phone call and said he could offer me a room even though it was after hours. As soon as I arrived I realized that I was the lucky one to have stumbled upon this PERFECT Inn! My husband and I chose the honeymoon suite and almost made an entire weekend out of it because it was so lovely. We honestly did not want to leave and we can not wait to return! I rate The Brewster Inn a 20 out of 10!

Charming

I stayed at The Brewster Inn with my two young daughters and myself a much needed get a way. I was absolutely delighted by this first time B&B experience. Upon my arrival I was greeted at the door by the Innkeeper whom happens to have a British accent that truly does add to the charm of my adventure. This Inn is a wonderfully restored historic home with pieces carefully selected to reveal its incredible history to Maine. Per the recommendation of the owner I reserved The Honeymoon Suite for my family. We were so delighted we did this suite is warm and very inviting, greeted by a cozy fireplace, a place to sit and play games or relax with a great book. Perfectly sized bed, that was quite comfortable, plenty for my eyes to look over as each decoration in the room you could tell was meticulously chosen. Big enough for a family but cozy for lovers too. The room and the bathroom were beyond my expectation on cleanliness. It has a deep whirlpool tub, a separate shower , matching bath robes and if your interested a menu of adult beverages to make the night perfect. The next morning we enjoyed a warm dish of French Toast with coffee, muffins and a freshly prepared fruit salad. My family's experience was great but I hope to personally return soon to enjoy The Honeymoon Suite as a romantic get a way. My tip, one night is not enough.

Amazing stay!

There are few places as welcoming as the Brewster Inn in Dexter, ME. Particularly when you arrive in a downpour like my husband and I did. Yet the intemperate weather could do nothing to hide the beauty of this gorgeous inn. From its painstakingly tended garden in the backyard to the little details strewn about in every room, there is nothing that doesn't please the eye. You can see how much the owner loves this place. He also truly cares about his guests. As we walked in, wet from the seasonal rainfall, we were made to feel welcome. He brought us to our room, and I was impressed by how well composed everything was. Details were meticulously added to it, some for our comfort and others to pay homage to the inn's history. Mark was quick to point out some of the area's sights and honest on recommendations on where to eat. When I desired a nice warm cuppa, he was happy to provide and in the morning, we were greeted by a delicious spread. I actually had to restrain myself from taking the last piece of strawberry cinnamon bread, after piling my plate high, as I felt it would be unfair to deprive the other guests of a taste. I still regret that decision.

First time at B&B

We never have stayed at a B&B so we were somewhat hesitant, not knowing what we would find. The experience turned out to be a delight thanks in great part to Mark's hospitality and his insistence that we thoroughly enjoy our visit. Everything about our two-night stay was a great pleasure. Charming Breath of Fresh Air

This old governor's mansion, turned B & B, is so charming and quaint. Set in a small, country town it is a breath of fresh air, compared to hotel franchises in a city. The yards are dotted with gardens and sitting areas...places to relax and drink in the peacefulness of the day. The renovations show attention to detail and the decor is lovely...take time to enjoy all the trinkets and items used to adorn the establishment. Mark, the innkeeper is very personable and does all he can to make your stay pleasing and comfortable. Another plus is the tasty breakfast he prepares.

Lovely place to stay

We were travelling around New England from the UK. We had read about Brewster Inn and we were not disappointed. It is a lovely home, beautifully renevated and kept. Mark is a great host, very welcoming with good knowledge and advice. We were only able to stay 1 night, would love to go back someday. Fully recommend to anyone travelling in that area of Maine. Fantastic breakfast too, I even asked for the recipe for the yummy Sausage bake. S

Great B&B in Central Maine

We were traveling in central Maine and stayed at the Brewster Inn. The B&B was located in lovely large house in Dexter, Maine. The house has a large living room where all of the guests could gather nightly to discuss their activities of the day. Mark was a considerate Inn keeper and was very helpful in providing information as to where to go and where to eat in the Dexter area. Breakfast was delicious and in the evening, Mark was very accommodating when we wanted coffee, tea and hot chocolate in the evening. In the rooms, there were special little touches like a black washcloth for makeup removal and terry cloth robes for after your shower. The price of the room was very reasonable and I would recommend this B&B to anyone traveling in central Maine.

Wonderful place to stay

We were traveling to Maine for the first time ever. We found the Brewster Inn on the internet - We were not disappointed! It is a lovely place to stay. Mark is a very considerate and helpful Inn Keeper. Mark provided us with information of things to do and see in the area, and gave us great suggestions for seeing the surrounding area. We couldn't have been happier and would love to visit the Brewster Inn again. We would certainly recommend staying at the Brewster Inn. Following Mark'[s suggestions, we felt we really saw a great deal of the area and went away feeling like we had seen the best of Maine. Each morning Mark served a delicious breakfast - It was different each day.

Fabulous!

This inn was recommended by the local Goat School we attended, and our 4-night stay was fabulous. The owner, Mark, was very helpful providing sites to take in and guiding us to wonderful restaurants. The inn is beautiful and the big window seat in the main gathering room was our favorite spot to enjoy coffee and tea in the morning before a delicious breakfast was served with hot casseroles, eggs, cereals, fruit and breads. In the evenings we relaxed on the patio, with fragrant lilacs and beautiful gardens as we watched the sunset. We stayed in the Garden Room, which has lots of daylight and is bright, comfortable and welcoming. The inn displays historical photos and memorabilia of the original owners. Mark is a wonderful host and goes above and beyond to ensure guests are welcome.

Wonderful stay at the Brewster Inn, Dexter Maine

Mark made our stay a this historical B&B a absolute lovely experience . The Honeymoon suite is beautiful with a very comfortable queen size bed and nice seating arrangements. Mark is very hospital and provides a delightful, fresh breakfast every morning. We are looking forward staying at the Brewster Inn, hopefully in the near future and highly recommend others to do the same.

Beauty to be found in rural Maine

We had a wonderful trip, to visit old friends, and see the sights, in and around Dexter, Maine, and very much enjoyed our stay at The Brewster Inn. Mark was a most knowledgeable "tour guide," providing insights and information about what to do, and places of interest, in the area. The estate was clean and comfortable, and made for a very nice stay.

Quaint Bed and Breakfast

First time staying at a Bed and Breakfast. Brewster in is one of a kind. Mark has done a great job of converting to a Bed and Breakfast. Mark is very helpful and pleasant to talk with. The Breakfasts were very good. Brewster Inn has a lot of local history. We wish we could have stayed longer. If we make it to Maine again we would definitely stay here. Thanks Mark.

Vintage Charm

Our first time at the Brewster Inn, I'm sure we'll be back many times. We loved the decor, the food, and all the one to one attention from Mark and Tina. We spent two relaxing nights there, the best part of which was sitting in the screened in porch reading, drinking a glass of wine and watching the sun go down over their extensive and well cared for garden. We recommend it highly.

Great Historic place to stay in!

I traveled to Maine for a wake and a Mass given for a deceased dear friend of mine. All the hotels near by were booked for some or all of the three days that I needed, so I resorted to "SIRI" and asked her for hotels and motels near Milo, Maine. Out of the ones that Siri suggested, I chose The Brewster Inn without really knowing anything about it. I feel that this place was Heavenly sent! The Inn is very beautiful, the rooms are very cozy, & everything is pristine...and the breakfast is DELICIOUS!!! The Innkeeper and his wife, Mark & Tina Stephens, couldn't have been more accommodating, understanding and helpful! I'm handicapped and they helped me with all of my needs. At such a very sad moment in my life, I am very grateful that, for Mark and Tina, this B&B is not only their Business, but it's majorly their work of LOVE!

This Beautiful Inn was a God Send!!

After multiple flight delays and red eye travel, we found ourselves in Portland Maine with an 8 hour drive still in front of us. Two hours north we realized we were too tired to continue...but all hotels were booked! Miraculously my sister happened upon the Brewster Inn on line and they still had 2 rooms available! They were very accommodating with our late arrival and even provided a bottle if wine to calm our nerves! After a great nights rest in comfy beds in cute rooms we had a delicious hearty breakfast and were ready to continue our journey. There was only one problem...we didn't want to leave! We hope to return someday!!

Wonderful Bed & Breakfast

My husband and I stayed at The Brewster Inn in Dexter, Maine and had a wonderful experience. The Inn is very nice. We were welcomed and made to fee at home immediately upon our arrival. They were able to effortlessly add a gluten free breakfast each morning, which my husband requires for his health. They asked us what we were interested in seeing and made recommendations of places to visit in the area that pertained to our interests. We will definitely stay here again!!

Jackpot!

My family and I traveled to Maine to attend a friend’s wedding. Being accustomed to traveling, we figured we would find a hotel or an Airbnb and conduct business as usual. After browsing the internet for a while, we came across an inn. No one in my family had stayed at an Inn before, so we decided to book with the Brewster Inn. The bottom line up front, the Brewster Inn exceeded all of our expectations, and the establishment owners are genuine people of exceptional character. From beginning to end, Mark and Tina were very professional and maintained a constant line of communication with us to ensure our stay at their Inn was seamless. The quality of the rooms, beds, showers, internet, and breakfast meals were all top-notch. All COVID precautionary measures were followed according to the current CDC guidance. The traffic of the occupants was carefully managed to ensure all social distancing measures could be observed. Although our stay was short, if we ever find ourselves back in the area, we will certainly be staying at the Brewster Inn again. I highly recommend this establishment to anyone visiting Maine and see themselves passing through Dexter.

A Wonderful Place to Stay

I spent 2 wonderful nights at the Brewster Inn during a week-long road trip to Maine. Mark and Tina were not only kind and hospitable but also very happy to provide information on the local area and attractions. The inn itself was beautiful, rooms clean and nice, and prices were quite reasonable. Overall a fantastic experience and highly recommended.

Sublime

I absolutely adore the Inn and the grounds. Everything is well kept, spotless, and so inviting. The decor is set for such a wonderfully warm feeling as you enter and is carried throughout the home. Mark and Tina obviously have taken great pride in this historic home. They know the history and if asked will share which is wonderful. They are both kind, thoughtful, and warm, making the stay so perfect. I have to comment on how comfortable the bed was, I have never stayed anywhere, where I slept like I do at home, but this bed was so comfortable I slept like I was in my own bed. It is kind of out of the way, but I love that, it is a short drive to things to do in the area but you get the quiet country with absolutely amazing hosts. You can't go wrong.

Stay here! Seriously.

Where to even start? The Brewster Inn is beautiful and well-maintained - there is no doubt that owners Mark and Tina love their home and truly enjoy sharing it with others. The living room you're greeted in is comfortable and welcoming. We immediately felt relaxed and at home (minus the responsibilities of home - which is exactly what we hoped for!). The dining room has a view of the lovely flower gardens behind the inn (we stayed at the end of June) and breakfast each morning was delicious! Seriously. We'd go back just for breakfast. We stayed in the Honeymoon Suite. It was perfect for a couple of introverts celebrating their 21st anniversary. A comfy bed and sitting area surrounded by gorgeous wood paneling and walls of shelves filled with books - we couldn't have asked for more. We only stayed a couple days so I didn't have time to finish the book I started reading, which just means we HAVE to go back. Seriously. We'd go back just for the books. The air jet tub was a wonderful way to wind down and decompress at the end of the day. Followed, of course, by curling up in snuggly robes and chilling out before bed. The only thing that could have made that better was curling up in front of the warm fireplace...but it was 80 degrees outside, so we'll have to return in the winter months. The air jet tub would feel amazing after a chilly day. Seriously. We'd go back just for the tub. But none of that would be possible without Mark and Tina who are, without a doubt, two of the most delightful people we've ever met. From craft beer to tattoos, we had plenty of shared interests to chat about. I've now got a new tattoo shop to look into, and my husband has learned of the mecca of beer stores which we'll be visiting soon. ;) I can only imagine the recommendations we could have come home with had we a few more days to spend with them. Seriously. We'd go back just to chat with Mark and Tina. In conclusion, if you are considering a stay at the Brewster Inn, stop thinking about it and (in the words of the great Shia Lebouf) "jjjuuusssttt DO it." Seriously.

The Brewster Inn was AMAZING!

We had such a wonderful relaxing stay at The Brewster Inn. Mark and Tina were amazing! From our original communication with Mark in the early planning stages, to greeting us at the door on arrival, and to the final goodbyes at the end of our stay- both Mark and Tina were on point in making sure we were comfortable and always asking if there was anything we needed. The accommodations were very nice and comfortable, and everything we needed was readily available. But the best part of our visit was the breakfast in the morning- Tina is an amazing Chef! In addition to our great accommodations- Mark and Tina shared some interesting information about the Brewster Inn and the surrounding areas. We would highly recommend this unique place for an overnight visit, or an extended stay as we are looking forward to visiting them again soon! Neil and Liz G.

A hidden gem

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Brewster Inn in Dexter, Maine, and I must say it was a remarkable experience. From the moment I arrived, Mark and Tina, the hosts, extended their warm hospitality, making me feel right at home in this beautiful and historic inn originally owned by Senator Brewster. The charm of the Brewster Inn lies not only in its rich history but also in the personal touches added by the Stephens. The rooms are cozy, comfortable, and adorned with thoughtful appointments that reflect the inn's heritage. It's evident that a lot of care has been put into maintaining the inn's historical character while ensuring a comfortable stay. One highlight of my stay was the delicious morning breakfast, offered complimentary to guests. It was evident that the innkeepers take pride in providing a hearty and enjoyable meal to start the day on the right note. Adding to the comfort, the rooms come with plush robes that truly elevate the stay experience. These small details make a significant difference and contribute to the overall sense of relaxation and indulgence. Beyond the interior, the outdoor spaces of the Brewster Inn are a true delight. The meticulously designed and cared-for grounds offer a serene backdrop for enjoying a peaceful morning, leisurely afternoon, or tranquil evening. The screened-in patio and other outdoor areas provide the perfect setting for taking in the natural beauty that surrounds the inn. In conclusion, the Brewster Inn is a hidden gem that offers not only a cozy and comfortable stay but also a journey into history and a retreat into tranquility. Mark and Tina's dedication to their guests' experience shines through every aspect of the inn, making it a destination I wholeheartedly recommend for anyone looking to experience a slice of Maine's history and charm. Wonderful Inn with beautiful gardens

My sisters and I spent time at The Brewster Inn and had an incredible time. Our room was lovely, everyone was friendly, and the gardens were really nice. Having a morning breakfast was a great way to start the day. If you are ever in the area, I would recommend giving The Brewster Inn a try. You won't be disappointed.

You'll love The Brewster Inn

We sincerely enjoyed our time at The Brewster Inn, it was a special stay during our travels in Maine. Mark and Tina were super and have created a lovely atmosphere in their establishment. The historic property offers inviting guest spaces, pretty gardens, a charming breakfast room, and everything was sparkling clean. Our room was private and spacious and the homemade breakfast with (essential) quality coffee was delicious. We are so happy to have stayed at this lovely bed and breakfast. It was a treat!

The Inn a beautifully preserved old house.

We were in town work and left before daybreak every day, so we did not get chance to enjoy some of the common areas or try their breakfast. But the room was clean, incredibly spacious, the beds comfortable, and the hosts very gracious. We look forward to coming back the next time we are in town.

Romantic or casual

Husband and self stayed for a weekend to attend a local function close by. The Brewster Inn was perfectly situated for our needs. Walk-able to downtown area for some local shopping and easy access to other amenities (gas, groceries, dining). The property is large and during bloom time is probably very beautiful (as depicted in pictures) (we went late winter). Mark and Tina were very accommodating and professional. Quite possibly a small wedding, or renewal ceremony could be held here. The property is beautiful. The rooms are large and comfortable. Parking is easily accessible.
