Circa 1810. Rev. Amos Wheeler, minister at Bowdoin College, once owned this welcoming Federal-style home, with its shuttered, many-paned windows, large lawn and shade trees. It is in the National Register of Historic Places. Plaid sofas next to a fireplace invite guests to relax, and there are cozy corners for conversation, games and quilting. Guest rooms feature country curtains, quilts and hardwood floors. A popular breakfast dish, often served fireside in the dining room, is puff pancakes with fresh fruit, omelettes and bacon. (In summer, the porch is the breakfast spot.) Fresh rhubarb crisp is offered for desert. Summer theater is offered at Bowdoin College, a mile away. Popham Beach and Freeport are nearby.
