Highlawn Inn

Guests at this inn stay either in Highlawn Inn, a three-story Victorian, or in Aunt Pearl's, an adjacent cottage constructed in 1900. Both homes have been restored and filled with romantic furnishings and decor. The innkeeper's last addition is a suite located in the top floor of the carriage house. This idyllic retreat features double French doors leading to a rose double whirlpool tub, further decorated with tiles from a pressed tin ceiling. Exposed beams, pine floors, cathedral ceilings and a cozy library nook add ambiance to the suite. Other rooms include romantic items such as a heart-framed bed or perhaps a lattice-enclosed porch with a glider swing chair. The grounds are romantic, dotted with gardens and pebble paths. The innkeeper takes great pride in her creative breakfasts, which often feature delectables flavored with herbs from the garden. Gourmet dinners, with such items as chicken baked with rosemary, garlic and Riesling wine or cheese ravioli with Alfredo sauce, are available on Saturday night

In the National Register, this Second Empire Victorian features 12-foot ceilings, a mansard roof, large porch and French doors. The innkeeper is a quilter and collects antique quilts. George Washington is said to have bathed in the warm mineral springs in town where he owned a property a block from the Manor Inn. Roman and Turkish baths are featured in The Baths, a West Virginia State Park.
