Said to be the oldest landmark inn in America, some walls of the Beekman Arms are two- and three-feet-thick. It has seen a variety of guests-including pioneers, trappers, Indians and Dutch farmers. Among the famous were Aaron Burr, William Jennings Bryan, Horace Greeley, Franklin Roosevelt, Neil Armstrong and Elizabeth Taylor. Like most old taverns and inns, it provided a meeting place for leaders of the day. The Delamater House, an Alexander Jackson Gothic home, was built in 1844 and is in the National Register of Historic Places.
