Description
Circa 1860. After a day of wine-tasting, hiking in Shenandoah National Park, exploring the caverns of Luray or sightseeing on Skyline Drive from Front Royal to Charlottesville, relax at this gabled stucco farmhouse. Sit by the fire in the cozy library or on the porch on comfortable Adirondack chairs. Take a nap in a hammock big enough for two under the pine trees. Tastefully furnished guest bedrooms exude their own distinctive character in an inviting setting. The Suite is a studio apartment with a private kitchen. Both an early continental and a bountiful homemade country breakfast are served in the Sunroom. Visit the innkeeper's artist studio in a restored stable. Five-star dining is within walking distance and other excellent restaurants are within 5 to 15 minutes by car.

The Town of Washington was surveyed by a young George Washington and, at least as legend has it, Gay Street was named by the future president for a daughter of Lord Fairfax with whom the young surveyor was then smitten. Civil war battlefields surround the county and both Jefferson's Monticello and Madison's Montpellier are comfortable day trips away. Historic Awards: Local Register (Granted).
