Description
Circa 1884. This columned Greek Revival house occupies more than an acre in the center of the town's 19th-Century Homes Walking Tour. Dr. Havilah Babcock, English professor and noted hunting and fishing author, occupied the home with his family. Once operated as a boarding house, the home continues its tradition of hospitality and comfort, but now boasts cable television, private baths, ceiling fans and air conditioning. Guests still enjoy gathering at the end of the day on the front porch to share their adventures, which many times includes visiting Appomattox Courthouse National Historic Park where General Robert E. Lee surrendered to General Grant. The innkeepers offer regional dining in their restaurant with a daily change of menu to reflect seasonal changes in ingredients.
Location: Mountains and Small town.
