DescriptionThere are many inns where star-gazing is a popular nighttime activity. At Hartness House, it is taken to a whole new level. The original owner not only served as the state's governor, but inventor/astronomer James Hartness also created the historic observatory that remains at the home today. Aside from this uncommon amenity, the house itself is impressive. Guests who stay in the home's original portion reach their well-appointed rooms via a three-story staircase. Two newer wings also offer elegant accommodations. There is a Victorian-styled dining room on the premises as well, offering dinners by candlelight. The home is often the site of weddings, receptions and parties. Country Inns magazine chose Hartness House as one of its top inns, and in another article made note of the inn's wonderful holiday decorations and festivities.
