Description

Circa 1851. An important part of the historic riverport community, this Queen Anne Victorian was featured on the Annual Pilgrimage and Christmas Candlelight Tour of Homes. Accented with family antiques, memorabilia and local history, this B&B inn offers non-smoking comfort. Relax in the parlor with popcorn, on the porch with hot cider or in the large shaded yard. Guest bedrooms and a suite include magazines, cards, games and bedside chocolates. Margaret’s Room boasts a clawfoot tub. Bananas Praline in the New Orleans tradition, with hot coffee and cold OJ; fluffy scrambled herbed eggs, Texas cheese and crisp bacon, fresh berries or sliced vine tomatoes may be served for breakfast in the dining room. It is an easy walk to nearby shops and attractions.

Historic Interest

Built in 1851 near the ferry that brought goods into early Jefferson, Wise Manor has been in the same family since 1908. Once occupied by General Buell, it was home to the Stern family, early Jefferson postmaster and postmistress honored by a bronze fountain in downtown Jefferson. The home was lovingly restored by Jefferson's town historian, Katherine Ramsay Wise, who began accepting guests in 1974.

Romantic Interest

People love to hear the history of the family who now own the home, as well as those who previously owned it. The decor and colors are Victorian and early 20th century(1927). Rooms are feminine and airy.
