Description

Circa 1894. Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote about the first owner of this house in her novel, "The Long Winter." The homey, country bed & breakfast offers rooms with items such as white iron beds, pedestal sinks and hardwood floors topped with rag rugs. Wilder was a resident of DeSmet, and the town features a church her father helped to build, as well as a schoolhouse where the author once taught. In addition to the six rooms in the main house, the innkeepers also offer a sportsman facility that is popular in the fall for pheasant hunters. Stay there in the summer to enjoy the great fishing at Lake Thompson, the state's new park. There's a game cleaning shed and freezers. The cottage has its own fully equipped kitchen and is self catering.

This property has been featured in Plainsman.

Location: City/Urban, Small town of 1 and 200.
