DescriptionCirca 1874. Sitting on 40 oceanfront acres overlooking Narragansett Bay, this rambling Victorian inn was built as a summer home for scientist Alexander Agassiz. An on-site laboratory was a forerunner of the Woods Hole Marine Lab. Many original furnishings remain, and there are spectacular views from every room. Luxurious guest bedrooms and suites feature large whirlpool tubs, fireplaces and fine decor. Some boast French doors that open to sweeping water vistas. Enjoy a gourmet breakfast, and on Sundays a sumptuous buffet is part of the restaurant's special Jazz Brunch. Complimentary afternoon tea also is served daily. Dinner specialties include striped bass with clams and Vidalia onions, duck and grilled lamb. The grounds include a private beach, lighthouse, walking trails and a cutting garden.
