Description

Circa 1875. Albert House was built by Canadian architect Thomas Scott in 1875, and he lived there until
1895. Scott was appointed to the governmental post of Chief Architect and as such was responsible for the design, construction and maintenance of all federal buildings in Canada from 1871 to 1881. He designed part of the Parliament buildings and supervised the construction of the Library of Parliament. After Scott left Albert House, the structure was used by the Victorian Order of Nurses and then it became Rosary Hall, a convent of The Sisters of Service. The inn is half a mile from the Parliament buildings and many other historic buildings in Ottawa. It has a cobblestone parking area. The inn is renowned for its large custom breakfast, which has an extensive menu, including fruits, cereals, and a choice of griddle and egg delights like French toast, blueberry pancakes, custom omelets, fried egg sandwiches, fried tomatoes, fried potatoes and numerous fresh breads.

Location: City/Urban.

Built in 1875, our inn has been a family residence, the head office of the Victorian Order of Nurses, a convent of The Sisters of Service, and a 25-room flophouse. By the time it was restored in 1981, Albert House had been abandoned and derelict for some years.

Historic sites nearby: Parliament Hill (10-minute walk), Byward Market (15-minute walk)

Romantic Interest

You can have a hot drink by the fire in our cozy lounge. If you are lucky enough to be staying in a room with a Jacuzzi, you can order room service, fire up the tub by candlelight and have a good soak in luxurious bath salts.
