DescriptionCirca 1795. The Swag is composed of six hand-hewn log buildings, one dating to 1795. They were moved to the site and restored. An old church was reassembled and became the cathedral-ceilinged common room. The fireplace in this room was constructed of fieldstones with no mortar to maintain authenticity. The inn's 250 acres feature a nature trail with five hideaways along the trail, a spring-fed pond, hammocks and thick forests. A two-and-a-half-mile gravel road winds through a heavily wooded hillside to the inn. In the evening, dinner is served on pewter ware at long walnut tables. Listening to folk music and mountain storytelling afterwards is popular. A full list of special events is available each month. Inkeepers NotesLocated on top of a 5,000-foot private mountain, our "ritzy rustic" inn boasts elegant classic country rooms with private balconies, fireplaces and steam showers. Our original hand-hewn structures that comprise the inn were moved, log by log, from remote locations in rural Tennessee and North Carolina. Many of them date back over 150 years. Our living room was a primitive Baptist church in Sneedville, Tennessee, called the Lonesome Valley Church. When restoring one of the buildings, we found a newspaper article on the wall that told what President Lincoln had said the day before! Our split-rail boundary—created by the CCC in 1930's—leads you into the wilderness trails of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Marvelous cuisine for all three meals daily in our Mobil Four-Star dining room. Spectacular views and fascinating hiking trails create a nature lover's paradise.
