Inkeepers NotesAt Cumberland Falls has been operational as a bed and breakfast since March of 1998 and is on the Historic Registry. Conveniently located on a tree-lined street in Asheville's historic district, it is only 7 blocks from downtown Asheville and three miles from Biltmore Estates. Some of the finest cuisine in Asheville is located in the downtown area and is easily accessible from the inn. This Victorian, turn of the century home was built in 1902. It has been a private residence, a boarding house and a Bible repository. Perhaps one of its most interesting occupants was Michael Kelly. Born in County Roscommon, Ireland in August of 1858, he came to the United States in 1880 at the age of 22. Arriving in Asheville in 1886, he supervised the laying of the water and sewer pipes of this city. The similarity of Asheville to his native Ireland struck such a cord in the young man that he remained here marrying his wife Mary at the famous St. Lawrence Basilica in 1898. Asheville was his home until his death at 80. Much of the sewer system he worked on and supervised is still in place today. Room DetailVictorian Parlor
