Description
Circa 1847. As General Sherman marched through the South on his way to Atlanta, some of his Union soldiers occupied this home. The grand Greek Revival home was built by Rev. Sidney Bumpas, and for 20 years, a Methodist newspaper was published here. The interior, often showcased on local historic home tours, has been restored to its former glory. The four guest rooms are decorated in a nostalgic, romantic style. One room contains a 19th-century mahogany bed with beautifully carved woodwork, another room offers a fireplace, clawfoot tub and bed draped in luxurious linens. The innkeepers offer two breakfast choices, one a light meal with fruits and homemade breads or a full Southern feast featuring items such as banana waffles topped with praline sauce. The home, listed in the National Register, is located in Greensboro's historic College Hill district.
