Description
Circa 1830. Built in 1830 as a farmhouse, this inn has enjoyed an interesting dichotomy over time, serving as a parsonage for the former church next door and later as a bordello. The charming side-hall colonial rests on an acre of lush lawn and gardens and is surrounded by meadows and an ancient, abandoned cemetery. Antiques, paintings and old family photographs combine with wool and chintz draperies to create warmth and elegance. Breakfast is served on "grandmother's" china on the screened porch or candlelit dining room. Scones and fresh fruit are staples, with entrees such as lemon-Ricotta pancakes adding a gourmet touch.
This property has been featured in Gourmet, New York Magazine, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The South Florida Sun Sentinel, Traditional Home Magazine, Martha Stewart Living. Location: Country and Riverfront. Inkeepers Notes
Offering upscale bed and breakfast lodging in a beautiful rural setting, this 1830 Federal-style farmhouse offers bed & breakfast accommodations in seven romantic guest rooms, many with fireplaces, deep-soaking tubs, two-person showers or Jacuzzis — in short, a superb place for a romantic getaway — including specials like our Cockles Of Your Heart midweek package. Guests return to the Inn year after year, drawn by the Inn's casual elegance, its beautiful, tranquil setting and by innkeeper Deborah Bowen's warm hospitality and scrumptious breakfasts. "The Traveler's Guide to the Hudson River Valley" says "The setting near the Green River is sylvan and relaxing..." Shaded by ancient sugar maples above a meadow where Cranse Creek flows into the Green River, the Inn — now in its eighteenth year — is located in the Hudson River Valley, in the foothills of the Berkshires, a great starting point for a wide variety of activities and events, including not only Tanglewood and the area's exploding cultural scene but also museums and historic sites such as the Norman Rockwell Museum, Hancock Shaker Village, Mass MoCA, Olana, Naumkeag, Clermont and Lindenwald.
