Circa 1889. Situated on the shores of Seneca Lake, the heart of this expanded resort is the century-old stone castle with awe-inspiring wood carvings and lake views. Guest bedrooms are called chambers and are decorated in period furnishings. The adjoining Vinifera Inn features modern, luxury Jacuzzi rooms and the White Springs Manor overlooks Belhurst Vineyards. Look out on the expansive grounds and lake from one of the six different dining rooms. The onsite, award-winning Edgar?s Restaurant is renowned as a fine dining establishment in the Finger Lakes. In 1885, Carrie Harron Collins, a descendant of Henry Clay, hired an architect and 50 men to begin work on her dream. During construction one man lost his life, another lost his mind. Four years and more than $475,00 later, 48 men completed her dream - Belhurst Castle. In the century since the structure was built, Belhurst Castle has been, at various times, a private home, casino, speakeasy and restaurant. Tales persist of the romantic past, of secret tunnels, hidden treasures buried in the walls and on the grounds, of ghosts and hauntings. Fact or fancy? No one knows. Belhurst combines the romance of the past with the comforts of the present in an elegant, yet relaxed atmosphere. It is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
