Description
Circa 1825. The Ammonosuc River flows gently a few yards from this historic inn, which was built in the early 1800s. Additions were added in 1910 and again in the 1950s. The inn originally was the home of John Pierce, nephew of President Franklin Pierce. Of the 26 guest rooms, 14 are located in the inn. These rooms are decorated in traditional New England style with beds topped with quilts. Some rooms include a poster bed. The rest of the rooms have contemporary furnishings. Guests can enjoy the gardens and mountain views or head down to the sandy beach. In the winter, guests can go snowmobiling or cross-country skiing. Breakfast is included in the rates, and Chef Victor Hofmann was named Chef of the Year by the American Culinary Federation in 1994. The Hofmann family has owned and operated the Wayside Inn for more than a decade.
