Circa 1850. Multilingual innkeeper Alexandra imparts a New England hospitality with a European flair at this cozy yet rambling country inn on five wooded acres. The original 1850 roadside farmhouse has evolved into comfortable accommodations with a carriage house and historic wing. Sit by the locally quarried mica stone fireplace in the living room, read a book from the secluded library, converse on the wraparound four-seasons porch, play games in the front game room or relax in the upstairs common room. All the suites and guest bedrooms feature scenic views and either a modern rustic or historically preserved decor. The wait staff in dirndls at the Alphorn Bistro dining room serves authentic Bavarian cuisine and Austrian, Swiss and German family favorites. An adjacent sunroom opens onto a patio and English gardens.
