Circa 1840. Sitting midway between Kansas City and St. Louis along the Katy Trail in the historic district, this bed & breakfast consists of an 1850 replica of a Roadside Inn and an 1840 Colonial. Gorgeous gardens, patio areas and old restored outbuildings highlight the landscaped grounds. Understated yet lavish and elegant, the spacious guest bedrooms are romantic retreats with sitting areas, Missouri antiques, French country wallpaper and fabrics. Comfortable beds are made with high thread count linens and pretty coverlets. The Garden House Suite includes a fireplace. Savor a leisurely breakfast made with locally grown produce amply served in the Sun Room. Dixie’s Gourmet Kitchen also provides small catered events and cooking classes. This beautiful property is located in the historic Missouri River town of Rocheport, Missouri picked in 2006 as one of USA’s “Top 10 Coolest Small Towns” by Frommer’s Budget Travel Magazine. Guests enjoy excellent rooms, food, and service. Rooms are large, spotlessly clean, private and filled with amenities and comforts. The food is renowned. Dixie Yates writes cookbooks, teaches cooking classes and is a much written about foodie. Guests can also enjoy fine dining at Rocheport’s excellent but informal restaurants. Fun shops offer antiques, gifts, books, and art. The most beautiful and photogenic section of 225 mile long, rails-to-trails, Katy Trail State Park is less than one block from the Inn’s back door. The Katy Trail provides wonderful bicycling or hiking opportunities. Day trip options include nearby towns of Columbia, Boonville, Arrowrock, Fayette, and Fulton. Three are within fifteen minutes drive and offer a wonderful variety from historic tourism to live theater to university town pace and entertainment. Perhaps best of all, the Yates House offers rest and relaxation and the sweet time couples need for reconnection.
