Description
Circa 1872. Massachusetts Gov. William Claflin purchased this gingerbread cottage because of its fine location and splendid view of the ocean. He imported oak timbers and employed ship's carpenters to carve oak ceilings, wall panels and interior pillars. A servants' wing, an additional floor, and a wide veranda were added, all for the purpose of entertaining important Massachusetts leaders. As a bed & breakfast, the Oak House maintains the grand style with authentic Victorian furnishings and refined hospitality.
