The first resident of Brook Farm Inn was the 19th-century author, Constance Cary Harrison. Her husband, Burton Harrison, was secretary to Jefferson Davis. They were active after the Civil War in activities to provide the pedestal for the Statue of Liberty, and were friends of many well-known people of the time, including Emma Lazarus.
