Circa 1920. This romantic bed & breakfast is an ideal accommodation for those visiting the Berkshires. Well-dressed, four-poster beds rest atop polished wood floors. Gracious furnishings, Oriental rugs and soft lighting add to the ambiance. Most guest rooms offer fireplaces and whirlpool tubs, and several offer views of woods or gardens. Fresh flowers, brandy and Godiva chocolates are just a few extras that await guests. In the early evening, wine and cheese is served. Breakfasts are served by candlelight, with crystal stemware and antique china. The innkeepers offer several special getaway packages, such as a wine-tasting and dinner weekends. Golf and tennis facilities are located across the street.

Welcome to Applegate Inn located in the Berkshires Region of Massachusetts. The inn is situated on a park-like 6-acre Massachusetts estate near horse farms, with only a half mile walk to downtown Lee. We pride ourselves in creating a tranquil atmosphere that allows all guests to create memories that will be treasured for years to come. The inn's elegant rooms, magnificent gardens, heated swimming pool and friendly staff promote true relaxation at our bed and breakfast. During your stay, you will be pampered with candlelight breakfasts, afternoon wine and cheese services, bedtime cognac and chocolates and attentive service throughout. The inn, built at the end of America's "Gilded Age," is a Select Registry Bed and Breakfast that incorporates every modern convenience in a traditional setting. From the moment you check in you will find Applegate Inn a relaxing place to rejuvenate your senses. Our careful attention to detail and the natural beauty of the area promote a feeling of relaxed elegance. The eight uniquely decorated rooms in the Main House and three rooms in the adjacent Carriage House provide comfort and true relaxation.

Room Detail

Room 1

Once the estate's master bedroom, Room One is the largest in the inn. This elegant room stretches the entire width of the building providing outstanding views to north, east and west. The massive wooden four-poster King-size bed provides a comfortable night's sleep. Matching end tables, a dresser, an armoire containing a TV and VCR, a CD player and a comfortable love seat are also located within this tastefully decorated room. A welcoming sitting area offers a Queen-size convertible couch, four wingback chairs, a table and a small desk. In the center of the room, guests can warm up in front of a working wood-burning fireplace. Wood and fire starters are provided. A large closet features a refrigerator and coffeemaker. Guests seeking ultimate relaxation can unwind with a soothing steam shower in the room's spacious private bathroom.

Room 2

Room Two offers guests a comfortable four-poster Queen-size canopy bed luxuriously adorned in white lace. Two pine night tables, an antique oak dresser with a gigantic mirror, two easy chairs and a gas fireplace easily controlled by a thermostat add to the charm of the room. The walls of Room Two are papered and painted in a relaxing peach color and are adorned with cherubs. A private restroom features a vanity sink, tub/shower combination and a toilet.

Room 3

A French reproduction Queen-size sleigh bed highlights this bright, sunny room with its eastern and southern exposure. This room, with its mantled fireplace, has views of Applegate's expansive lawns and towering pine trees. It also features a cozy corner sitting area with two wing back chairs and a table. A wood-burning fireplace which guests can use with Duraflame logs, well-appointed night tables, a dresser with a mirror and other thoughtful touches are located throughout the room. The bathroom is equipped with a pedestal sink, toilet and a tub/shower combination.

Room 4

Relaxin Room Four with cheery blue and white wallpapered walls. Whether you choose to retire to the Queen-size antique white iron bed or relax in one of the two white wicker chairs, you will enjoy this room's cottage ambiance. This room includes a white wicker dresser, well-appointed lamps, electric wood stove and a western view of tall pines and Berkshire sunsets. The large bathroom features a tub/shower combination, pedestal sink and a toilet.

Room 5

Room Five. Warmly decorated in lavenders and greens, this sun-filled room features a great view of the inn's manicured lawns from four windows with east and south exposures. The room is elegantly decorated with a queen-size four-poster canopy bed of tiger maple, two night tables, two wingback chairs and a dresser with a mirror. A gas fireplace with a thermostat creates a homey atmosphere. A private bathroom includes a modern pedestal sink, toilet and shower.

Room 6

Room Six. This room is the inn's smallest room and contains spectacular angular ceilings highlighted by dark green patterned wallpaper. An impressive Queen-size antique Victorian bed, matching marble-topped dresser, settee and electric wood stove are features of this tastefully decorated, cozy room. A private bathroom is equipped with a pedestal sink, toilet and a tub/shower combination.

Room 7

Room Seven is located on the third floor and features large windows and a French door that leads to a furnished private balcony. Also included is an antique bronze-framed King-size bed adorned with fine linens, matching night tables with lamps, a gas fireplace, a love seat that converts to a single bed and tables and chairs.

Room 8

Located on the third floor, Room Eight features large windows and a French door leading out to a furnished private balcony overlooking towering trees, the vast lawn and the Berkshire Hills. This room contains a comfortable wooden four-poster King-size bed, two matching night tables with lamps, an electric fireplace, a love seat that converts to a single bed, matching ottomans and a table and chairs. A wet bar with a refrigerator, coffeemaker, art deco vanity, microwave and a television and VCR built into the wall are also features of this room. The room features a private oversized marble bathroom, a whirlpool tub for two by the large curved windows, candelabras by the tub, a stall shower and a toilet.

Room 9

Room Nine features a four-poster King-size bed and a private patio. It is a luxurious suite located on the first floor of the Carriage House. Night tables with lamps, a vanity, a table and chairs and a love seat that converts to a single bed provide all the comforts of home. A wet bar with refrigerator, a coffeemaker, a microwave and a built-in TV with a VCR are features of the room. The private bathroom includes an antique reproduction vanity sink, a toilet, a two-person whirlpool and a stall shower.

Room 10

This elegant, handicapped accessible suite, located on the first floor of our Carriage House, features an antique bronze King-size bed with matching night tables with lamps, a sewing machine table vanityand love seat that converts to a single bed. Be sure to step outside onto your private patio to enjoy the peaceful outdoors. This room also contains a wet bar with refrigerator, a coffee maker, a microwave and a built-in TV/VCR combination for your convenience. The private bathroom includes a vanity sink, toilet, double-occupancy whirlpool tub and stall shower.

Carriage House Cottage

This two-bedroom suite contains two Queen-size beds and dressers and mirrors. The cottage living room features a television and VCR tastefully hidden in the wall, electric fireplace, kitchen facilities with a dishwasher, a dining area and its own furnished private deck that overlooks the Berkshire Hills. The cottage has a full bathroom with a vanity sink, toilet and a combination whirlpool tub/shower.
