Description

Circa 1762. An outstanding example of Georgian and Greek architecture, this landmark townhouse sits in the center of the Historic District. Six men who signed the Declaration of Independence stayed here, and countless slaves were smuggled through the cellar's Underground Railroad tunnel. The spacious foyer features dark walnut and pine plank floors, rare in this region. Original ornate gilded rosette moldings still crown the living and dining rooms, highlighting the imported Austrian crystal chandeliers and marble fireplaces. Oriental rugs, paintings, sculptures, tapestries and antiques furnish the inn with luxury and elegance. Guest bedrooms are sure to pamper with chocolates, hot air-jet whirlpool tubs, robes and slippers, heated marble floors and towel warmers. The Englehart Suite

A refined and elegant room with romantic English tapestry above a King-size bed. Cozy sitting area with upholstered, needlepoint antique chairs, antique secretaire, marble reading table and lamp. Soft shades of blues and creams are used throughout the room. Separate vanity area with marble countertop, over-size closet, shower stall of tumbled marble. View of the garden and Koi pond.

The Murray Suite

Grand and over-sized bedroom with a King-size bed dressed in stunning brocades and the finest European linens, sitting upon a magnificent rug brought from The Orient. Stately silk draperies, swagged and pooled in front of large Greek Revival windows with historic rolled glass. Silk upholstered armchairs, wood-burning marble fireplace. Ornately gilded French secretaire, antique settee, tables and accent pieces. The bath is of imported Italian tumbled and polished marble. The heated marble floor is designed with a rug pattern outlined with a cut polished marble boarder. Over-sized double vanity counter of Botticino polished marble and painted oriental porcelain sinks sits below European sconces and imported gilded mirrors. Also included are a thermostatically controlled, heated, air jet whirlpool tub, an electric towel warmer, antique makeup table.

The Rutland Suite

A rustic garret room, complete with dormer windows dressed with imported silk London shades and window seats with brocade pillows and cushions. Elaborately-carved King-size bed with luxurious European linens of damask or brocade. Cozy, antique settee for two and an exquisite hand-carved table near the light of a dormer window, over-sized armchairs and fireplace. Clawfoot whirlpool tub for two, tumbled and polished Italian marble, heated marble floor and towel warmer, shower stall surrounded by exquisitely designed etched glass doors, a bidet and an over-sized antique style sink. Private sundeck with a view of the garden and Koi pond.
