Description
Circa 1790. Situated on the common, the Lake House was first a hotel and stagecoach stop. In 1817, granite baths were constructed below the first floor. The inn opened as "Dr. Shattuck's Maine Hygienic Institute for Ladies." It continued as a popular health spa until the 1890s. Now noted for excellent country cuisine, there are two dining rooms for non-smokers. The spacious Grand Ballroom Suite features curved ceilings and a sitting area with fireplace, TV and Whirlpool tub.
