Inkeepers Notes
Welcome to THE Season at the English Meadows Inn. If you like rocky coastlines, long walks on the beach, the tang of salt air in the morning, and the romance of the classic English ?Country House?, then you?ll love Kennebunkport and the English Meadows Inn. Kennebunkport?s village and port, just an 8-minute walk away, are full of life and in addition to the charming shops and great restaurants, ocean pursuits of fishing, sailing, kayaking or just a cruise are amongst the best in New England. Great golf and tennis are also right in the neighborhood. The English ?Country House? experience is at its best in the spring and summer. Between the one-hundred-year-old lilacs, natural day lilies, the traditional cottage roses, and perennial gardens, something is always in full bloom and our cutting garden supplies fresh flowers for the rooms. Our two acres of grounds and gardens are a great place to wander about, catch up on a book in a hammock or lawn chair, or relax at the end of a full day. Our ten bright and airy rooms have a view of the gardens and some have a fireplace which can come in handy with the sea breezes on cool evenings. Our famous breakfast features local produce and we do magical things with wild Maine blueberries. On Saturday afternoon we offer an English Tea, with the best pot of tea this side of Claridge?s! Our guests tell us our comfortable, casually elegant style feels just right in the summertime in Maine. We hope you join us during THE Season at the English Meadows Inn. Please call for reservations and additional information.
Room Detail
Mayfair
The Mayfair is on the second floor of the Victorian main house and occupies the five window ?turret?. This is the brightest room in the Inn as the morning sunlight floods the room and is a wonderful place to have a morning coffee and read the paper.
Hamstead
The Hampstead?s two twin beds overlook the stand of lilacs and perennial gardens at the rear of the carriage house on the first floor. One of our recent guests said the warm, soothing colors of rose and ivory reminded her of her grandmother?s rose garden.
Bingley
The Bingley, located at the rear of the carriage house first floor faces the rear stand of lilacs and the meadow. The Bingley has a spacious and bright feel because of the south and west facing windows. It has a separate dressing area with a lovely wicker vanity and mirror, a large closet and Victorian toile wallpaper leading to a large, bright shower bathroom.
Cornwall
One of the largest rooms in the carriage house is the Cornwall. Located on the second floor, the Cornwall has a queen ?cannonball? bed, a gas fireplace and a very large shower bathroom.
Tack Room
The Tack Room started life as the carriage house storeroom for the saddles and harnesses for the farm?s carriage and work horses. It is now a first floor suite with a separate dressing/sitting area, a queen brass bed, a gas fireplace, and a whirlpool tub and shower in the bath.
Cotswolds Cottage
The Cotswolds Cottage is a special place. It sits at the back of the property surrounded by woods and meadows and is very private. The two bedrooms , one with an iron queen sized bed and the other with two twin beds, are decorated with comfortable country fabrics and linens.
Coventry
The Coventry room is furnished with an antique iron and brass double bed. Located at the rear of the second floor of the carriage house, this quiet room has pretty floral wall coverings and a large, bright, shower bath.
Surrey
The Surrey is on the first floor of the carriage house. An antique double brass bed is the focal point of this cozy room which is wallpapered in a traditional blue and white toile. A comfortable reading chair is complemented by fine indigo fabrics and bed linens.
Kensington and Chelsea Suite
The Kensington and Chelsea Suite is entered via a vestibule off the second floor carriage house hallway creating a proper suite. Uniquely configured with a private shower bath, the Kensington and Chelsea suite offers privacy and comfort for families or friends travelling together.
Carriage House Suite
The Carriage House Suite is a unique room in all of the Kennebunkport area. It occupies the whole third floor of the carriage house ( ~600 square feet) and takes great advantage of architectural details like exposed original barn beams, dormers, balcony, and interesting ceiling lines. An additional outside entrance may be used for privacy and convenience.
