DescriptionCirca 1812. In the National Register, the Captain Lord Mansion was built during the War of 1812 and is one of the finest examples of Federal architecture on the coast of Maine. The home rests at the edge of the village green within view of the Kennebunk River and within walking distance of the town's many historic sites. The romantically appointed guest rooms include roomy four-poster beds, gas fireplaces and heated marble and tile floors in the bathrooms. Some rooms include a double Jacuzzi tub. Guests are further pampered with fresh flowers, a full breakfast and afternoon treats. This property has been featured in Andrew Harper's Hideaway Report, Colonial Homes, Yankee, New England Getaways. Inkeepers NotesThe Captain Lord Mansion is an intimate and stylish inn situated at the head of a sloping village green overlooking the Kennebunk River. Built during the War of 1812 as an elegant private residence, it is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It has been operated as a bed & breakfast inn for 25 years. The large, luxurious grest rooms are furnished with rich fabrics, European paintings and fine period antiques, yet have modern comforts such as private baths with European-style illuminated make-up mirrors and hair dryers, over-size beds, telephones, air conditioning and gas fireplaces. Six deluxe guest rooms overlook the green and the Kennebunk River. These are the most sought after accommodations at the inn, and all six now have upgraded baths with heated tile/marble floors and several have double whirlpool tubs. Gracious hosts and innkeepers, Bev Davis and husband Rick Litchfield, and their friendly, helpful staff are eager to make your visit enjoyable. Your greeting at the inn will be warm and cheerful. The innkeepers and their staff are pleased to help map out itineraries for shopping, walking, biking or driving. They also can point you to great restaurants, antique shops and out-of-the-way sights. Family-style, full three-course breakfasts are served in an atmospheric country kitchen. Breakfast begins with a choice of fresh fruit, creamy French vanilla yogurt and a flavorful muesli-type creal. The second course is made-from-scratch muffins served piping hot from the oven to the table. The main course varies day to day and may include one of the following scrumptious dishes: Belgian waffles, buckwheat pancakes with fresh apples or blueberries, cinnamon French toast or perhaps a vegetable quiche or other egg casserole dish. The inn has been designated an AAA 4-diamond property for 20 consecutive years. In 1995, the inn was honored with the "Super-Star Hotel" Award from Star Service, the critical Guide to Hotels & Cruise Ships. Since 1996 the inn has been given the Mobil 4-Star Award, one of the most coveted honors in the hospitality industry. The inn has also been given a "STAR" designation by Fromers and Fodors. Warm hospitality, delicious breakfasts and incredible guest rooms, combined with meticulous attention to cleanliness and decorating details, make the inn an engaging and memorable vacation spot.
