Listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Contains a collection of 18th-century Creole cottages, many dating from the 1780s. The Hotel includes the Gabriel Peyroux House which was erected in 1780 and is one of the oldest buildings in the Mississippi River Valley. The Hotel was also the first home of the New Orleans Jazz Museum, the first Jazz Museum in the world, which opened at the Hotel in 1961. Louis Armstrong stayed at the Hotel for the opening and a plaque in the Louis Armstrong Breakfast Room marks this occasion.
